When creating a portrait, Iโ€™m not just painting what I see - Iโ€™m trying to capture your petโ€™s unique personality, expression, and all those little details that make them *them*.

Here are a few things that help create the best possible portrait:

โœจ **Clear facial details and textures**
Sharp images help me accurately capture features like whiskers, markings, fur texture, and those tiny details that bring a painting to life.

๐Ÿ‘€ **Eye-level photos**
Photos taken at your petโ€™s eye level create a much stronger connection in the finished piece and allow their personality to shine through.

๐Ÿ• **Clear fur direction**
Seeing how the fur naturally flows helps me create realistic texture and depth, especially in watercolour and acrylic paintings.

โ˜€๏ธ **Good lighting**
Natural light is always best. It helps reveal true colours, highlights, shadows, and all the beautiful details that can get lost in darker images.

The purple flowers put in a Tennentโ€™s tin,โ€จOn the windae ledge where the water leaked in.โ€จโ€œStick them there, thatโ€™ll dae just fine,โ€
A wee bit of floristry before bed-time

The best folk I knew aw drank too much,โ€จWarmest hearts wi the roughest touch.โ€จLaughing loud wi their teeth stained gold,โ€จTelling the daft stories theyโ€™d always told.

Ashtrays full, folk gabbing through smoke,โ€จHalf their love hid inside a joke.
โ€œJust wan canโ€ theyโ€™d laugh with a grin.
But the night then swallowed the next yin in.

A Bluebell and thistle in the battered tin,
Trying tae bloom where the drink had bin.
And I mind thinking, being that small
Even the prettiest things needed alcohol.
