I messed up! And was shown the error of my ways by John Townley. The rest of yoy either didn't notice or wanted me to end up in the wrong pub!

Next Tuesday the session is at The Woodman not the Bull.

Apologies to anyone who thought they had lost a week out of their life and to those who thought i had successfully invented time travel.

In my defence im not feeling well but can't quite make up my mind if im having a reaction to Thursday's shingles vaccine or if I have a very bad cold.

🎻✨ Folk at The Bull – Tuesday 25 June, 7:30pm! ✨🎻
We’re rolling back into The Bull, Price Street, for another warm, lively, slightly‑chaotic‑in‑the-best-way folk session — and this week comes with some cracking On This Day trivia.

On 25 June…

🛰️ 1967: The world’s first live global TV broadcast aired — so if your chorus is a bit wobbly, just pretend it’s “authentic vintage transmission noise”.
🎸 1988: Debbie Gibson hit No.1 in the US — proof that even teenagers can write bangers, so bring that new tune you’ve been hiding.
🗺️ 1678: Elena Cornaro Piscopia became the first woman to earn a PhD — so yes, you absolutely can bring that obscure academic ballad about 18th‑century rope‑making.
🎤 2009: The world lost Michael Jackson — expect at least one cheeky attempt at a folkified MJ riff.

Bring a tune, bring a song, bring a friend, or just bring yourself.
All instruments, all voices, all levels, all good vibes welcome.

We have 30 people attending the boat trip session on the 30th of June, and I have now closed the books. Although the boat holds 40, we need more room than most passengers for our instruments, i hope I have judged it right and hope even more that you have not all decided to take up the double bass.

It would be fantastic if a couple of people could take the lead in getting some photographs, or even videos of the sessions so that I can incorporate them into the Facebook posts. The simplest way is for you to put them up as a post in the group, and I'll take that as permission to use them.

🎶✨ Folk Music & Song at The Wellington – Tuesday 19 May! ✨🎶

We’re back at The Wellington this Tuesday for another evening of tunes, songs, stories and good company. If you fancy a pint, a sing, a play, or just soaking up the atmosphere, you’ll be in the right place.

Bring an instrument, bring a voice, or simply bring yourself — everyone’s welcome and the vibe is always friendly, relaxed and full of life.

Don't forget tomorrow night's session at The Good Intent, and don't forget your £15 cash for the boat trip. :-)

06/05/2026

Next week's session is at The Good Intent. 7:30 kick off.

Now the exciting news. 30th of June being a 5th Tuesday we are going on a musical canal cruise in Birmingham City Centre probably out to Hockley Port.

The boat holds upto 40 people but that would be too tight for instruments so we are limiting it to 26 people. I am going to ask each person to pay £15.

We need a minimum of 18 people to have paid up by 19th of May. If we dont hit that deadline I will cancel the event. If we exceed 18 people the ballance will be donated to RNLI.

I need hard UK currency by Tuesday 19th May so you can hand over your contribution at the Good Intent or Wellington Sessions.

So, get ready with your canal songs, shanties and SOS songs.

The boat has a bar.
