Over the summer, our Artistic Director Chris Pulleyn was delighted to be invited to meet with Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin to chat about &Piano and the work we do to promote & celebrate classical music across West Yorkshire, supporting and championing Northern musicians.

We talked about how we can contribute to the work West Yorkshire Combined Authority is doing to promote & support West Yorkshire’s incredible cultural profile and reputation, and ensure Classical music is involved as part of the diverse mix of music happening across the region.

We chatted about some great ideas and plans for the future to help promote the amazing artists and creativity happening across West Yorkshire, and it was really great to hear how much our cultural scene & economy matters to Tracy, and how she’s doing as much as she can to ensure it continues to thrive, and promote it across the country and beyond!

Thank you Tracy for letting us share our thoughts and ideas, and we look forward to supporting West Yorkshire Combined Authority in the future!

We're really excited to be partnering with Leeds Song & University of Leeds International Concert Series on Saturday, presenting our 'Blast Off to Outer Space' Family Event, featuring music for voice, cello & piano.

We weave classical song and instrumental music into a story to create a relaxed, engaging and interactive concert for families with children up to the age of 8 that introduces them to the magic of classical music and it's power and ability to paint pictures and tell stories.

Featuring a team of exceptional musicians - Soprano Marie-Claire Breen, Cellist Jessica Burroughs, and Pianist Christopher Pulleyn, together we'll guide you through a journey that will train you up as astronauts, ready to blast off on a journey into outer space! What will we see and discover on our way? And will we make it back to Earth...?!

Another brilliant &Piano School Tour has finished, having toured schools all across Kirklees & Calderdale - from Dewsbury to Ovenden, Elland to Spen Valley. We’ve engaged with over 1200 students who all responded so brilliantly to the music we performed - including Gerald Finzi, Georges Bizet, Richard Strauss, George Gershwin, Takashi Yoshimatsu.

In lots of instances this was the first time the students heard professional classical singers and instrumentalists live, and we hope we’ve planted a seed to encourage them to explore more classical music, or inspired them to start learning an instrument! A huge thanks to & for their brilliant performances and engagement with all the young people we met! A huge thanks as well to the Sir George Martin Trust & to Arts Council England for supporting our work!

Today marks the start of the &Piano School Tour! Once again (our 5th year running!), this week we're visiting secondary schools all across Kirklees & Calderdale, introducing students to an eclectic mix of classical music, performed by a team of fantastic professional performers from around the North of England.

This week we're delighted to have Mezzo-Soprano Daisy Mitchell, who studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and has since gone on to perform with Opera North, Buxton International Festival & the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival, and Clarinettist Chris Hardy, who performs regularly with orchestras including the Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Northern Sinfonia and the Hallé.

Over the course of the next four days we'll be performing music by Handel, Strauss, Finzi, Jonathan Dove & Takashi Yoshimatsu, engaging with over 1200 students! Today we start at Spen Valley High School & then onto Halifax Academy! This school tour wouldn't be possible without generous support from Arts Council England, the Sir George Martin Trust and our 88 Keys supporters.

&Piano 2026 might be over, but has just started today, and this year is a special one as they celebrate their 20th anniversary between May 6th-17th! 📚🎉

With events happening all across Huddersfield featuring loads of fantastic authors, poets, family activities and workshops - take a look at their brochure to find out everything going on.

We’re particularly looking forward to a celebration of the Huddersfield Ukranian Community with a FREE event happening at the LBT (booking recommended) celebrating the local Ukrainian community with song, dance and an illustrated talk.

Michael Drapan, author of Home from Home, will deliver an illustrated talk on the 70-year history of the émigré Ukrainian community in Huddersfield. This will be followed by traditional folk songs and ballads from the Huddersfield Ukrainian Singing Troupe and traditional folk dance from Zolota Kalyna Dance Ensemble.
