🎶 Meet the Soloists – Dominique Simpson, Soprano 🎶

We’re delighted to introduce soprano Dominique Simpson, who will be joining us for The Golden Age on Saturday 4 July.

Dominique spent ten years as a chorister at Leeds Cathedral before studying music at Oxford University. She has since performed as both a soloist and choral singer across the UK and internationally, including tours to Spain, Portugal and Taiwan.

Following the pandemic, Dominique returned to Leeds and trained as an English teacher, combining her love of music with a passion for education. As she puts it, she’s still getting used to the fact that, however good the lesson, her English classes don’t applaud at the end!

When people think of the Baroque period, names like Bach and Handel often come to mind. But Alessandro Scarlatti was one of the great innovators who helped shape the music that followed.

His Magnificat is a work of beauty, drama and contrast, setting the words of Mary’s song of praise from the Gospel of Luke. At times majestic and uplifting, at others intimate and reflective, it showcases the expressive style that made Scarlatti one of the most influential composers of his age.

At our forthcoming concert, Skipton Choral Society is delighted to bring this wonderful music to life.
