A sad sharing today that our very beloved dear friend Allan Brownie has taken the journey to the other side in Spirit - little did I know that when I posted on Beltane that Allan had taken critically ill and had only days to live in this world.
I met Allan in 2003 while doing my Sacred Way Tours and soon after he asked me if I would help him create a stone circle on his land - much magic happened in the preceding months and on 1 May - Beltane as it worked out through Ceremony the last stone was placed in its position under a blood red moon in 2004.
Some time later I had a lucid dream requesting a Body Mind Spirit Music festival to be had in the circle to honour and 'bring back the old ways' of the land and the people.
As was typical of Allan - 'aye, lets have a cuppa and a piece and tell me all about the dream'. So it was that a few of us got together and the Breemie Mid Summer Festival came into being. It grew fast and within months we had a stage behind the Recumbent Stones so the music would be played into the circle for all to experience its magic. Foods of the world, magical stalls, healing tents, bands, talks and the creating of Scotlands largest Labyrinth created by over three thousand people at that first gathering.
I cant believe twenty two years have passed almost to the day that Allan has now left us and joined the very Ancestors I called upon to guide in its creation. Allan was a visionary who got things done, often impossible logistical things to me. 'Aye nae bother - I will shift the stones from across the valley - a 30 ton stone? Will give you a call when they are shifted, then its over to you' and that's just what he did.
He has brought joy and magical experiences into thousands of childrens and adults lives - Father Christmas arriving in a helicopter, train rides, magical landscapes with reindeer and hard working elves, Vintage Fairs, Dowsing workshops and adventures, weddings and funerals in the Circle - always uniting the people around him to support his Vision of the love of community and the land as he did mine time and time again.
Presently like many of you I am sad that my friend has left my life as I only had a blessed cuppa a few months ago and he seemed like the Allan he always was - busy, doing to much but happy. So this has come as a real shock to me as I thought we had much more 'time' left to create all the things we spoke and dreamed about for the future on the Breemie site.
The land he helped farm as a boy with Breemie Watt who sold it to his Dad on condition one day Allan would become the caretaker of it which he lovingly did. It was this legacy and that the old Aberdonian word for Broom is Breem that we decided the circle would honour the Ancestor and that which grew upon the land (Broom hill). The yellow bringing the light of the sun after the cold of Winter.
What will happen to it now I have no idea but I wanted to share with some of you the legacy of creation and of the man I knew and loved as Allan Brownie.
The poem below was written by someone who attended the last and third Breemie Summer Solstice Festival in 2013. Allan was chuffed to bits when I shared it with him, that this was what we had hoped some would experience through our Visions and labours in its creation and had created this poem.
Memories of Breemie Summer Solstice 2013
I arrived, through a gap in the trees
A balm entered me, blown on the breeze
An oasis of calm, mid the frantic push
No need to speed or race or rush
Sweet, kind soft pale petal pink moon
luminesced ,through cloud curled night
Peeking its face for a while
With full light
Gently, it,
Backlighted a stage , a hamlet set
On the brow of a hill, where humans met
There players and dancers spun their tune
The moment was now the dream so soon.
Grandchildren ran laughing,
At ease with the peace
Dancing to music,
praying for sun
Still raining !?!?!?
Said one of the young pure ones.
Hands over his, head cupped to his chest
He played the game, a life long jest
Enjoying the moments, took them full on
Till the battery ran out and he dreamed beyond
Connection happened in caring touch
The value was felt and I hope so much
That a speck of this will reside in our soul
And together we will make it a goal
To breathe and live the reality Made
Spending the time there to be played.
A Nony Mous
I have attached some of the many photos taken and shared across the years in honour of Allan, his ability to create sacred space so the community could experience just that - the very best of intergenerational community in harmony and joy.
I treasure the years of our creative endeavours, the highs and the many lows as they were my dear friend. Know that you are loved and missed. May the world you are now in which we spoke on many times be all that you dreamed it would be and much more. May you have endless cups and fine pieces with Harvey by your side and all your loved ones already there.
Your friend and brother in arms
