The Harris family had a long standing connection with The Old Stagers oldstagers, with the 4th and 5th Lords being regular participants in many productions.

The Old Stagers were founded in 1842 by the Earl of Bessborough to perform during Kent's annual Canterbury Cricket Week. It is the oldest amateur dramatic company in the world, and has given performances every year in Canterbury, with few exceptions.

Old Stagers members have included famous figures from sport, politics and the law. The Harris family were heavily involved in Cricket Week with the 4th Lord Harris holding the Kent captaincy for 14yrs until 1889.

At Belmont, we have photograph albums which show the whole family taking part in Old Stagers productions.

This year's production is "The Visit" by Friedrich Dürrenmatt - 29th July to 2nd August 2025, at The Malthouse Theatre, Canterbury.

For the first time in our history, the OS went on tour, taking our production of Yasmina Reza’s ART to the Bahamas. This was also the first ever theatre production to take place at the wonderful Lyford Cay Club. Huge thanks must go to them, John Gore and Charles Stonehill making it all happen and for creating a superb theatre space in the heart of the club. The audience was fantastic, the gala dinner afterwards was fabulous, and the play went down a storm. What an experience!
