These are some incredibly difficult words I have to write.
As many of you know, Rimshot has never been just a business. It was Mike’s dream - the dream of his life. He built it with vision, courage, sacrifice, immense talent, and an extraordinary love for sound. He believed in creating a space where music could breathe, where ideas could grow, where artists felt understood and inspired. A space that felt like home - like his living room -, where musicians were welcomed with a cup of coffee, where they could breathe, relax, and, above all, create.
He gave so much to make this place real. And so did we, together. Every corner of this studio carries his passion, his talent, and his determination to create something truly special.
When he passed away last July, my world changed forever. He had asked me to continue the studio if I possibly could. When I did, I realised that I wanted it too – how much I enjoyed it, that I had my own passion for it, and that I truly wanted to keep his dream alive. I loved it. I believed in it. And I wanted to protect and carry forward his legacy - because I knew that was what he wanted.
But once again, life had other plans.
Due to circumstances completely beyond my control, I had to leave the building - both our home and the studio space. It is heartbreaking to say that this chapter is now coming to an end.
To every artist, every client, every friend who walked through our doors - thank you. Thank you for trusting us with your music, your creativity, and your stories. Your support over the years meant everything to Mike. And after he passed, the sessions we continued meant more to me than I can properly express. You helped me keep the light on a little longer.
I want to say a very special thank you to Joshua. Josh, I could not have done this without you. We became such a great team, and I truly believe we could have continued something extraordinary together. Your dedication, loyalty, talent, and calm strength carried me through more than you know.
And to Andy - thank you for always being there to listen, to encourage, to have my back, to remind me that I could do this. It always felt like we each held half of an idea that, together, became something bigger. Thank you for giving me strength, and a shoulder to cry on! I will always believe that our “flying circus” would have been something wonderful.
And to the engineers and producers who had already agreed to be part of the Rimshot Flying Circus - thank you. I was very much looking forward to working together, and I am deeply sorry that this will probably now not happen. Your willingness to give it a chance meant a great deal to me.
Although the physical space is gone for now, what was created there does not disappear. The music remains. The memories remain. The friendships remain. And Mike’s vision - his deep love for sound and creativity, his talent, his passion - will always live on in all of that.
What the future will look like, I cannot yet say. This chapter has closed, but perhaps one day the story will continue in a different form.
