Description
The Science Festival is aimed at the whole family and will comprise activities, lectures, musical events, art exhibitions both in Sidmouth Town and the Norman Lockyer Observatory.

Don't forget tomorrow's Cafe Scientifique! 🥳
How do different generations feel about the climate crisis? Does climate anxiety affect younger people more? And what helps us move from worry to hope and action?
Join us in the Cellar Bar, Kennaway House at 3.00pm on Tuesday 16 June for Building Climate Hope Across the Generations, a fascinating talk by Professor Juliet Carlisle from the University of Exeter and the University of Utah.
Why do different generations feel differently about the climate crisis? What role do emotions such as anxiety, hope and responsibility play? And how can communities help people feel empowered to take action?
Entrance £2.50 including a hot drink. Everyone is welcome – we look forward to seeing you there!

The next Sidmouth Cafe Scientifique will take place on Tuesday 16th June at 3.00pm in the Cellar Bar Kennaway House.
Professor Juliet Carlisle from the University of Exeter and University of Utah will give a talk entitled Building Climate Hope Across the Generations.
Juliet explains that her project explores climate-related emotions,such as anxiety, hope, and a sense of collective responsibility, as well as how different generations think about who is responsible for the current crisis. As part of the study, she is examining whether millennials and younger people worry more about environmental change, who they blame and how they cope with those feelings.
Ultimately, the goal is to understand whether different generations hold distinct “climate identities,” and what that means for public engagement and meaningful climate action.
Everyone is welcome to the presentation and discussion there is no need to book. Entrance costs £2.50 which includes a hot drink.

Thanks to everyone who visited us today at Sidmouth Sea Fest despite the challenging weather! It was great to watch people having a go on our reaction testing machine. Hope to see you all again at the Sidmouth Science Festival 9-18 October.

The next Sidmouth Cafe Scientifique will take place on Tuesday 19th May at 3.00pm at Kennaway House when Dr Owen Tomlinson from the University of Exeter Medical School will give a talk entitled Scientific spam – the good, the bad, and the very ugly.
Dr Tomlinson says “As scientific discoveries grow, as does the number of papers that scientists produce. However, there is a dark side to the publishing industry – that of academic spam."
Everyone welcome for this talk and discussion. £2.50 entrance which includes a hot drink.

It's Sidmouth Sea Fest Family Day this Saturday 16 May in Connaught Gardens . 🌻🦀 The theme is Marine and Green celebrating the beauty and importance of marine ecosystems. And we will be there! Visit the Sidmouth Science Festival stall for some fun science based activities and to find out more about our festival 9-18 October.

After yesterday's downpour the Rangers had spare cakes left over from their stall in one of the gardens. It seemed a pity to waste them so they will be selling them outside the sailing club this morning, come along and treat yourself. Also there will be a chance to buy one of the Tree-Towels to help with our tree planting fund.
Local artist Rebecca Lockyear has used some of our trees as inspiration for a capriccio, a stylised landscape, of the town. This has been used to print some high quality tea-towels or is that tree-towels? They are a bargain at £10, all profits going to the Arboretum, and can be ordered by emailing the Arboretum, or at many of the gardens open over the weekend. They will be delivered free to addresses in Sidmouth or posted for a small charge.

The next Sidmouth Cafe Scientifique takes place on Tuesday 17th March Kennaway House at 3.00pm when Dr Chris Atkins will give a talk entitled Shining the light on communications.
Chris will explain the basics of optical communications, particularly that based on optical fibres and demonstrate the principles of this valuable technology. He is a retired former research scientist.
Open to all no need to book. Entrance £2.50 which includes a hot drink.
