FORGET THE TELLY - SATURDAY’S HEADLINER AT THE PARISH CHURCH IS WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART
What’s on TV Saturday 25th April?- “Britain’s got talent”, “Wonder Woman”, “Blankety Blank” and “Snooker”
OR
It’s going to be a gorgeous evening so why not come down to the Sidmouth Parish Church at 7pm and, for the price of a decent takeaway pizza or two bags of potting compost, you can hear the most amazing music Mozart ever wrote - The Requiem, Ave Verum Corpus and Laudate Dominum (From Vesperae solennes de confessors).
There will be Bella cosa (La finta semplice) performed by our four professional soloists who join together for this piece, and starting the ball rolling, we’re going to give you Mozart’s Tantum Ergo.
Then there’s Haydn’s Small Organ Mass (Missa Brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo) which has the most amazing harmonies.
Well over sixty of us, Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses, all dressed to impress, will be doing our absolute best to make some memorable sounds, some gentle and exquisite, such as The famous Lacrimosa, some thunderous and exciting such as Kyrie.
To help us, we are bringing in trumpets, trombones and timpani (kettle drums). We also have the renowned Cathedral Organist and composer Andrew Millington (Director Of Music at Exeter 1999 - 2015). He’ll be our accompanist on the fabulous church organ, installed in 1881 and reputed to the the best in the South West. It got its electric blower in 1945. Not a lot of people know that.
Our MD, David Davies (Director of Music, Sidmouth Parish Church and also an experienced organist) has worked for months to bring us into shape for this momentous musical feast and, frankly, we’re beyond excited!
There should be some tickets left at Paragon Books, £15 (but cash only) or, if you turn up early, we’ll have a few left on the door (Cash or card).
There will be programmes with details of our musicians, together with a full translation of the words into English so that you know what we’re singing.
AND
We’re even going to be serving refreshments in the break. What’s not to love!
Still fancy staying in and watching the box?
