As a not-for-profit organisation, the voluntary panel offers a unique opportunity for artists to contribute to a challenging exhibition calendar that may not fit into a solely commercial gallery. Entries are welcomed from both established and new artists, artists of any media, individuals and groups in the hope that the widest possible spectrum of works can be highlight

ed and shared with local audiences. Positioned in the centre of Shrewsbury, the gallery is an established part of Shropshire’s art scene. As well as organising activities at Gallery3, the SADAA art panel has successfully run the Shropshire Open Competition for many years and this year’s competition promises to be bigger and better than it has ever been before. The panel also runs a number of art visits each year.

To round off our introductions to the Chapman family artists, meet Rory Chapman .

Rory works across photography, film and text, drawing on influences from documentary photography, editorial imagery and narrative film. His practice explores human psychology, mental health, feminism, violence and socio political issues, often rejecting ideas of polish, perfection and visual comfort.

Rather than making work that simply looks nice, Rory creates photo textual narratives that challenge how we present ourselves, how we hide what feels imperfect, and the damage that can come from trying to appear acceptable or “good enough”.

His work deliberately embraces a raw, low brow aesthetic, using photography and film to question the pressure to perform, repress and perfect ourselves. It is direct, uncomfortable and deeply human.

Rory’s work has been published in magazines including Docu Magazine, exhibited at M.O.M.A Machynlleth, Canfas and Cardiff MADE, and added to the permanent collection at Cyfarthfa Castle after receiving 2nd prize in the Juxtaposed Art Prize 2025. His films have also won awards worldwide for their visceral imagery and hard hitting themes.

Rory is one of four artists featured in Light Loss Destruction Devotion, alongside Natalie Chapman , Lola Rose Chapman and Harriett Chapman .

Light Loss Destruction Devotion opens Friday 19 June with a Private View from 5pm to 7pm.

The exhibition then runs Monday 22 June to Friday 17 July at Gateway Gallery.

Continuing our introductions to the Chapman family artists, next we have Harriett Chapman .

Harriett’s paintings emerge from an instinctive exploration of personal experience. Drawing from memories, dreams and internal landscapes, her work translates reflective moments into abstract visual form.

Her paintings transform autobiographical material into imagery that speaks to wider human experiences. By keeping a sense of ambiguity, Harriett creates work that sits between conscious and unconscious expression, revealing fragments of memory, emotion and psychological complexity.

Recurring motifs appear throughout her paintings, inspired by objects of personal significance. Familiar forms from her domestic landscape since childhood are reimagined as carriers of memory and meaning.

Harriett is one of four artists featured in Light Loss Destruction Devotion, opening next week at Gateway Gallery. The exhibition brings together work by Natalie Chapman , Lola Rose Chapman , Rory Chapman and Harriett Chapman, four artists from the same family, each exploring memory, identity, landscape and emotional experience in their own way.

Light Loss Destruction Devotion opens Friday 19 June with a Private View from 5pm to 7pm. The exhibition then runs Monday 22 June to Friday 17 July at Gateway Gallery.

Meet Lola Rose Chapman , one of the four artists featured in Light Loss Destruction Devotion, opening next week here at Gateway Gallery.

Lola is a West Wales based artist whose work is deeply rooted in the landscapes of Ceredigion. Rather than creating straightforward representations of a place, her paintings explore atmosphere, emotion and the feeling of being within a landscape. Her process is spontaneous and instinctive, using fluid brush strokes and dynamic marks to capture shifting skies, distant horizons and fleeting moods. Her work sits beautifully between abstraction and recognition, inviting the viewer to find their own sense of place within each painting.

Light Loss Destruction Devotion brings Lola’s work together with pieces by Natalie Chapman , Rory Chapman and Harriett Chapman , four artists from the same family, each exploring memory, identity, landscape and emotional experience in their own way.

Private View on Friday 19 June, 5pm to 7pm.

Meet , one of the four artists featured in Light Loss Destruction Devotion, opening at the Gateway Gallery.

Natalie is a figurative painter based in Ceredigion, Wales, creating work that explores identity, class, human relationships and the realities of working class life.

Drawing from personal experience, her paintings use bold colour, expressive mark making and snapshot like compositions to capture moments of tenderness, tension, resilience and survival. Her work gives space to stories that are often overlooked, while reflecting the strength, humanity and determination found within working class communities.

Light Loss Destruction Devotion brings Natalie’s work together with pieces by Rory Chapman, Lola Chapman and Harriet Chapman, four artists from the same family, each exploring memory, identity, landscape and emotional experience in their own way.

The exhibition opens with a Private View on Friday 19 June, 5pm to 7pm.

The public exhibition then runs from Monday 22 June to Friday 17 July at Gateway Gallery.

Such a lovely evening at Gateway Gallery last night for Faye Lorente Shyllon’s private view of La Pared.

It was warmmmm in there, but somehow that almost suited the evening. There was a lovely buzz in the room, with people chatting, looking with intention and getting a feel for the ideas and connection to Spain within Faye’s work.

Thank you to everyone who came along and made the evening feel so warm, in every possible sense of the word 💛

La Pared is now open at Gateway Gallery until Friday 12 June.

(As Gateway Gallery sits within a shared building, weekend opening is not currently available, so please plan your visit during weekday opening hours 🙏)

Sitting with Faye one on one is basically like getting your own private TEDx talk 😄

She has such a broad knowledge of artists, ideas, process, history and the way all of those things connect, and you can really feel that when she talks about her work.

Her exhibition, ‘La Pared’ explores her ancestry and her connection to Spain, and it gives the work such a personal depth. It feels thoughtful and layered with the culture.

Faye’s private view is tomorrow at Gateway Gallery, 5 to 7pm, and it’s definitely worth popping along!
