A story so shocking, it almost sounds impossible. Except it happened.

Nick Wallis returns to Ropetackle this July with The Great Post Office Cover-Up - an updated, new stage talk continuing on from his previous sold-out show here.

For anyone asking, no, this is not the same show. This new talk follows the story after the story, focusing on the extensive cover-ups, further revelations, and the ongoing fight for truth and justice.

For more than 15 years, Nick has investigated the Post Office scandal, exposing how innocent sub-postmasters were blamed, prosecuted and financially destroyed while serious faults and cover-ups remained hidden.

His last show at Ropetackle left audiences reeling. This updated version goes deeper into what came next, drawing on his upcoming second book and the latest chapter in one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in British history.

A gorgeous one for fans of honest songwriting, brilliant voices and live music with actual heart. Weirdly refreshing in a world still trying to make everything into a “content moment”.

Orcas with attitude. Anglerfish stealing the spotlight. Kelp forests just off our coast. Frankly, the sea has been keeping secrets.

Strange Seas: Weird & Wonderful Delights of the Deep brings a special Catalyst Club evening to Ropetackle, diving into the strange, brilliant and surprisingly dramatic world beneath the waves.

Join Elissa Philips, Director of Incredible Oceans, for stories from the front line of ocean campaigning, from anti-whaling work to the weird and wonderful creatures that make the sea so endlessly fascinating.

Henri Brocklebank from Sussex Wildlife Trust will also explore one of our own coast’s most remarkable hidden habitats: Sussex’s kelp forests. These underwater forests are vital for marine life, but have faced huge pressure from trawling and biodiversity loss.

Together, they’ll bring us an evening of storytelling, science, conservation and deep-sea oddities, with sass, sparkle and sea creatures behaving in ways that strongly suggest they know more than we do.

🎩 A magical little adventure for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers

Looking for something gentle, imaginative and properly made for young children?

Short Stories Tall Tales returns to Ropetackle with Nana Hannah and Her Hats, an original interactive theatre show by actor and mum Hannah Summers.

Nana Hannah lives in a house on a windy hill by the sea, and inside her house are magic hats. Inside the hats? Stories, of course. Sensible hat storage, really.

This time, families are invited on a voyage to a faraway island full of pirates, maps and treasure.

Created especially for children aged 0–4 and their grown-ups, this is a relaxed, immersive performance with storytelling, music, lights, sound and projected illustrations. Families sit together on a soft, foam-matted floor, with space for little ones to watch, wriggle, move, explore and take part.

No need for perfect sitting. No need for whisper-level toddlers. Just a warm, playful first theatre experience made with small children in mind.

🎩 Short Stories Tall Tales: Nana Hannah and Her Hats
📅 Friday 19th June
⏰ 11:30am & 1:30pm
📍 Ropetackle Arts Centre, Shoreham by Sea

💛 Thank you, Lesley’s Kitchen 💖

For many Ropetackle visitors, a pre-show supper from Lesley and Barry was part of the evening itself. A warm meal before a show, a friendly face in the café, and quite possibly one of those chocolate brownies people still talk about with suspicious intensity.

After a long break due to Lesley’s health, she has now made the difficult decision not to return to providing pre-show suppers at Ropetackle.

Lesley’s Kitchen became a much-loved part of the venue over the years. Lesley brought wonderful food, kindness, flexibility and proper hospitality, while Barry was there beside her, helping make it all work behind the scenes. Together, they made so many people feel looked after before the curtain even went up.

We’re very glad we still get to see Lesley and Barry at gigs and events, and Lesley is still helping us occasionally by providing meals for visiting artists, but we know many of our customers will miss those pre-show suppers and the lovely welcome that came with them.

Lesley has shared a heartfelt message of thanks to everyone who supported Lesley’s Kitchen over the years, which you can read in full on our website. 👇

From all of us at Ropetackle, thank you Lesley and Barry. You have been such a special part of this place, and we’re hugely grateful for everything you’ve given to our audiences, artists, staff and volunteers.

And, in true Lesley style, she may already have suggested someone to pick up the apron… so watch this space. 🍴

For anyone who loves folk music when it feels alive, curious and not trapped behind glass, this double bill is a bit of a gift.

🎶 Scotland Introducing: Heisk and Chloe Matharu
📅 Friday 26th June
⏰ 8pm
📍 Ropetackle Arts Centre, Shoreham by Sea

Part of the Scotland Introducing series, this evening brings together two rising artists from Scotland’s folk and acoustic scene, both deeply rooted in tradition, but taking it somewhere completely their own.

HEISK are a six-piece trad band with serious festival energy. Their name comes from an old Scots word meaning “excitable” or “crazy”, which is refreshingly honest of them. Accordion, fiddle, electro harp, kit and keys come together in a bold mix of trad tunes, funk grooves and pop hooks. It’s folk music with lift, bite and a very persuasive rhythm section.

Chloe Matharu offers something more intimate and atmospheric. A multi-award-winning Scottish Indian singer-songwriter and harpist, her songs draw on her time as a Navigational Officer in the Merchant Navy, shaped by the sea, memory and the natural world. Her voice was described by Anaïs Mitchell as “milk and honey”, which is wonderfully accurate.

Two very different sets, one shared thread: tradition, beautifully reimagined.
