Shoreham Wordfest A lively celebration of the spoken and the written word. Our Spring Celebration of Shakespeare happens near his birthdate.

We support local creativity, and attract famous authors and speakers to inspire and entertain our audience. A local Autumn Literary Festival, attracting national and international authors, dramatists, speakers and performers, and running creative writing courses and competitions. In Summer our Poetry Festival shimmies through our town.

It's a wrap! Another successful Shoreham Wordfest Celebration of Shakespeare ending with a rousing performance of Romeo and Juliet by Bowler Crab Theatre. Thanks to everyone who came along to the events, to the performers and to our fantastic Shakespeare team.

If you like to dance to or just sit and listen to fabulous ceilidh music. If you enjoy eating good hearty food. If you don't have a dancing partner but would like to still dance. Then come to our Shakespeare Revels. Everybody can join in with fun and celebrations. There's even a tot of mead to greet you and a bar to supply you with the necessary lubrication. Elizabethan Songs and Dances
Sunday 26th April, 2.00 – 4.00pm
Shoreham Centre, 3 Pond Rd, BN43 5WU
A workshop of lovely, easy to grasp, centuries old songs and rounds and a chance to learn some delightful Elizabethan dances. All ages most welcome. Led by the widely experienced teachers Emily Longhurst and Kathryn Penny.

Love and excess in Romeo and Juliet
Saturday 25th April, 2.30pm – 4.30pm
Shoreham Centre, 3 Pond Rd, BN43 5WU
Professors Matt Dimmock and Andrew Hadfield from Sussex University will discuss how the play represents love and marriage, and that dizzying speed of youthful experience. They will reflect on how well Shakespeare knew Italy and its customs, and how much the play was designed to show off the author’s literary prowess and ambitions. Their talk will be followed by a Q and A.

Shakespeare Night Ceilidh Revels
Saturday 25th April, 7.30 – 11.00pm
Shoreham Centre, 3 Pond Rd, BN43 5WU
A night of celebration and merrymaking remembering the great Bard’s birthday. A ceilidh of country and courtly dances with a lively Ceilidh band and caller. Delicious rustic ploughman’s victuals and a tot of mead included. Come dressed for the occasion, if you so desire! Everyone welcome.
A night of delight and one for the diary. Bar available.
