Our vision
Apron is an exciting new community initiative that aims to unlock the unique power of the creative arts to transform lives. We want to open doors and minds by bringing accessible new opportunities, hands on workshops, informal networking, well-being and social inclusion to the heart of Shoreham by Sea. A space for everyone. A space to reconnect. Although S
horeham is a friendly, close-knit community, there is potential for many groups to still feel isolated and excluded. Old and young. Skilled, unskilled or between skills. This is their space. An unpretentious place to come and try out a new angle, rethink what’s important and get involved. A venue that promotes positive change, supports personal development and encourages social regeneration though the creative arts. A space for all sorts of things. Apron is a collaborative project with workshops, events, performances, organised and sourced through local networks and accessible to all. Key groups are offered subsidised rates for workshops. Our offering will constantly evolve to meet the needs of the community, including:
Hands-on workshops: Textiles, Up-cycling, Cookery, Nutrition, Painting, Graphic book making, Puppetry, Photography, Dance, Music
A rolling gallery: Carefully curated exhibitions
Family art days: Intergenerational creative fun
Skills swapping: Message boards and clubs sharing skills and support such as knitting for computing and recipe exchange
Oral history: The home of a unique and accessible film-based memories museum for Shoreham that aims to preserve local heritage
Words: Poetry, drama and short-story classes and performances
Upcycling: Fashion, Furniture revival and upholstery
Textiles: Quilting, knitting and sewing clubs
Homework clubs: Ideas please! We are hoping to facilitate a Code club, Arts Award etc. Parent and baby events: ‘Milk’ drop-in, Toy swap, Kinder Cafe
Support for established arts events: Helping to showcase ideas and talent during WordFest, RiverFest and The Adur Festival. About our venue: The Co-op Community Space on Ham Road. The Space is wheelchair accessible and there are baby change facilities
When we operate:
We will be holding creative gatherings every one Saturday of the month from October 2017. We will also be running weekly workshops, dates and times TBC, and Family Art Fridays during the school holidays. Please follow us to keep up to date on our events.
