I am sad to report the death of Stefan Kowalczyk, a member of the club for over 20 years. His wife Pamela reports that he passed away in Marie Curie Hospice on 14 May, following a long illness (Motor Neurone Disease).

Pamela and Stefan had many happy memories of social events at the club, particularly the barbeques and quiz evenings, which Pamela continued to attend up to Stefan becoming ill in 2024. Their son, Peter, celebrated his 18th birthday with family at the club in 2001. As well as his involvement with the club, Stefan was a keen golfer, and some members may remember him in that context.

Our thoughts go out to Pamela and the family at this sad time.

A HUGE thank you to all who supported our fundraising event on Saturday 18 April, by either attending, helping organise behind the scenes, or kindly donating money and prizes.

With contributions from the raffle and Marie Curie tombola, we combined to raise £400 for charity.

Prosecco, Nozeco, and afternoon tea were enjoyed by over 30 people, who also took the opportunity to browse and buy from Elaine's display.

Lots of lovely comments in the Visitors' book too!

Club Events for May attached.

On Tuesday 28 April, our feature film will be The Choral, with a terrific cast headed by Ralph Fiennes, and even more fabulous local interest, including Saltaire's Victoria Hall, and Hebden Bridge's Gibson Mill.

A choral society, depleted by the demands of the Great War, has ambitions to sing Elgar's Dream of Gerontius. See the preparations, intrigue, and culmination of the dream!

As ever, tickets are £3, including hot drink and biscuits

The next film night will be Tuesday 14 April, when the 2025 film The Ballad of Wallis Island will be shown.
This is a comedy drama about a musical duo who reunite to perform for a wealthy fan on a remote British Island. It's been described as "a sublime, adorable comedy" and "all at once an odd-couple bromance, a quite respectable musical outing, and a nostalgic look at the memories we all lock up in the harmonies in our heads – the ones we carry with us through life." Filmed in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, it stars Tom Basden (who also wrote the songs) and Carey Mulligan
