One week to go! On Saturday 19 September the OSJ autumn season opens with a very special evening of Schumann and Lili Boulanger in our beautiful home at Dorchester Abbey in Oxfordshire. Artistic Director .lubbock.conductor will be at the helm, with rising star soloist .music joining the musicians for the Schumann Piano Concerto.

In this short film, John Lubbock introduces the concert. It’s going to be an evening of glorious Romanticism, virtuosity and above all, some really joyful music-making as the orchestra comes back together and enjoys reconnecting with each other and with our audience members after the summer break.

When OSJ oboist Ali Alty has performed Schumann (and many other composers!) on tour at the Cologne concert hall in Germany, all the players are given a small beer as they come off stage at the end of the concert.

Time for a new OSJ tradition to be established?

In this lovely short film, Ali talks about why she’s looking forward to performing Schumann at our autumn season opening concert on Saturday19 September at Dorchester Abbey in Oxfordshire and why it holds so many happy memories for her.

OSJ’s musicians are all world-class performers, who travel the world performing with extraordinary orchestras and soloists. But they also can’t wait to come back together in Dorchester and Oxford, to be part of the very special and equally extraordinary music-making that gives the OSJ its character. Schumann = sheer Romanticism. Glorious melodies, soaring themes and heady, passionate explosions of musical colour. What better way to open the new concert season than one of his most beloved pieces of music, the Piano Concerto, with the amazing rising star Sherri Lin at the keyboard.

John Lubbock and all the OSJ musicians are looking forward so much to welcoming audiences back to our home venue of Dorchester Abbey for a very special season opening on Saturday 19 September at 7pm. Join us for Schumann’s joyful Rhenish Symphony as well as his Piano Concerto and a high-spirited opener by Lili Boulanger.

OSJ Music for Autism has been running for over 20 years under the leadership of John Lubbock OBE. Last year, this pioneering initiative saw OSJ’s musicians and guest artists deliver 70 workshops in special schools for young people with autism. OSJ Music for Autism engages with over 6,000 young people each year, and is offered free of charge to participating schools.
