Week 9 of Theatre! 🎭

Today has been amazing! The cast are absolutely smashing it!

Our cast are starting to lower their scripts, speak more confidently and really show their talent!

Lillie-Mai developed a highly contagious case of butterfingers which results in her dropping her script twice which in turn had other people dropping theirs 🫣

Regardless of scattered pages and butterfingers, Aladdin is forming into a fantastic, energetic and hilarious show!

Well done to you all, and we hope that Lillie-Mai has managed to put her script back together in order…

Stepping into the role of the Genie of the Lamp is… Susie 🥁

Susie's theatre journey began at the age of seven, and over the years she has taken on a number of principal roles, all while doing her best to avoid any high-octane dance routines. One of her more memorable performances saw her playing the lead in a murder mystery where her character met their demise no fewer than seven times throughout the course of the show.

Music, singing and performing are at the heart of Susie's life. She regularly sings at events, in pubs and occasionally at festivals. When she's not performing, she's usually busy with one of her many hobbies, including knitting, crochet, spinning, sewing, costume and dress making, broom making, reading, baking and attempting to learn the piano.

Susie is delighted to be bringing the Genie of the Lamp to life and cannot wait to add plenty of sass and sparkle to the role. Part cosmic powerhouse and part glitter bomb, this Genie may have spent years trapped in a lamp, but she's arriving with enough energy, humour and party vibes to make up for lost time.

Stepping into the role of the Empress is …Clare! 🥁

Clare’s fun fact is perhaps a slightly worrying one: if all goes to plan, this will be the first production in which she actually makes it to the end alive. Every previous role she has played has ended with her character being killed off in one way or another, so she’s hoping to finally break the trend in Aladdin.

Although Clare was involved in theatre when she was younger, it has been nearly 25 years since she last stepped onto a stage. Returning to performing after such a long break has been both exciting and rewarding, and she is thoroughly enjoying being part of the production.

Outside of theatre, Clare is a huge music fan, an avid gig-goer and a dedicated member of a pub quiz team. On quieter evenings, she can often be found creating weird and wonderful festival outfits from yarn.

Clare is particularly enjoying getting into character as the Empress and exploring her frustration at trying to deal with a strong-willed teenager who refuses to do as she’s told. When she told her mum about the role, the response was simply, “That’s karma.” Clare is still not entirely sure what she meant by that.

Stepping into the outrageous role of Widow Twankey is… Dan🥁

When asked for a fun fact, Dan’s response was simple: “I’m not that fun… FACT.” Fortunately, what he lacks in fun facts, he more than makes up for in theatre experience.

Theatre has been a part of Dan’s life from a very young age. It’s in his blood and runs throughout his family, making the stage feel like a second home. His passion for performing has been a constant throughout his life, and he loves being part of productions that bring people together through laughter, music and storytelling.

Away from the stage, Dan enjoys spending time with his fiancé, although he admits one of his favourite hobbies is constantly annoying her. There’s every chance this cast profile will annoy her too.

As for playing Widow Twankey, Dan cannot wait to bring the larger-than-life character to the stage. Audiences can expect plenty of laughs, plenty of personality and, if Dan has anything to do with it, some unforgettable costumes. In his own words: just wait until you see them… big, bold and colourful!

Stepping into the role of the wicked Abanazar is… Andy 🥁

A huge fan of film and theatre, Andy was once lucky enough to be selected as one of only 2,000 people to attend the fan premiere of Revenge of the Sith in Leicester Square. After watching all six Star Wars films back-to-back, the evening was topped off with Revenge of the Sith being introduced by George Lucas himself alongside members of the cast.

As a child, Andy always dreamed of becoming an actor, spending years pretending to be Han Solo and Indiana Jones. Since joining a dramatic society at the age of 20, he has appeared in an incredible 78 productions, with Aladdin becoming his fourth show in just 12 months.

Andy admits he nearly always gets cast as the villain, although he claims he cannot think why. Evil characters are his favourite roles to play, especially when there is comedy involved, which makes Abanazar the perfect part for him. Outside of theatre, he loves music, going to gigs and playing guitar.

Taking on the role of Princess Jasmine is… Jody 🥁

Jody has been involved in theatre since she was 9 years old, performing in amateur productions as well as school and university drama societies. Fun fact… She once appeared on a West End stage after being pulled up during a performance by The Reduced Shakespeare Company in Piccadilly Circus to play Ophelia in Hamlet. Her task? To scream on cue in front of a packed theatre!

Although she was asked to read for a role years ago, life had other plans when she found out she was pregnant with her son, Jack. Since then, theatre has taken a back seat, making this her first performance in around 13 years.

Outside of theatre, Jody spends most of her time with family and friends, binge watching drama series, and taking walks with her French Bulldog, Tilly who she describes as a complete menace.

Jody says she feels really flattered to be cast as Jasmine. This will only be her third pantomime, having previously appeared in ensemble roles and as Prince Charming, so stepping into the role of Jasmine is something completely different and she’s very excited to get stuck into it.
