'After an 11 year hiatus, MPO Musical Theatre is setting a course for the Good Ship Gilbert & Sullivan.
We are pleased to announce our 2027 Production, The Pirates of Penzance 🏴‍☠️🦜

The Story:
Duty, Desire, and a Leap-Year Loophole.

👏🧑​Meet Frederic, a young man who has spent his youth mistakenly apprenticed to a band of surprisingly tender-hearted pirates. Why? Because his hard-of-hearing nursemaid, Ruth, confused the word "pilot" with "pirate 🤭
​Now, having finally reached his 21st birthday, Frederic's contract is up. He is free to leave the pirate life behind, re-enter polite society, and pursue the beautiful Mabel, the daughter of the local Major-General.
​However, just as Frederic plans his escape, the clever Pirate King uncovers a devastating technicality: Frederic was born in a leap year on, you guessed it, the 29th February. By the strict law of the calendar, he has only had five actual birthdays.
Bound by an unyielding, hilarious sense of "duty," Frederic realizes he won't truly be free until the distant year of 1940!

👮‍♂️Can a squad of terrified British bobbies outsmart a crew of sentimental orphans-turned-buccaneer?

🎭 We are delighted to be supporting the The Spirit Of Milborne Port Fete on Saturday 13th June!

We're looking forward to meeting members of our community, sharing more about the work we do, and showcasing the opportunities that light opera and musical theatre bring to people of all ages and experience levels.

Whether you've always wanted to tread the boards, sing with a group, help backstage, or simply find out more about what we do, we'd love to chat with you. We are always keen to welcome new members and volunteers to our friendly and supportive society.

Betty and her masterful creator Neil Harrison-Shaw have enjoyed a visit to Miss Edward's Class at Templecombe Primary School.
We hear that the pooing demonstration was a highlight! 🤣

I hear rumours she may be joining Neil Harrison-Shaw's pigs on the Harrison-Shaw farm and hopefully there are plenty of ginger nuts!

One of the local groups we are able to support last year was MPO Musical Theatre. We were really happy to be able to help fund this village group to help with their production costs.

Last night SOMP’s Jane took her daughters to watch their current show at the village hall and their review is in:

“5 stars to all the cast for a great show…but of course Betty stole the show! She made us all laugh. We would recommend going to see this.”

“ We attended last night's production and would like you to pass on our congratulations to all the team involved. From the opening scene you could well imagine being in the West End. The costumes were in the period, the accents were superb and not overdone at all, and the acting was a joy to watch. What a well rehearsed show this was - everyone knew exactly where they should be. I can't finish without mentioning Betty - she was wonderful and just highlights how many talented people you have in the society”.
