Announcements:

Firstly, and quickly as we'll do a proper post for this later. We've just passed one year since our first Open Mic, and therefore we will have a celebration on the 15th and start 1 hour earlier. πŸ₯³

Secondly, as previously shared, this Sunday will be one of our Sunday Showcases to somewhat bridge the gap between Open Mics and give some lovely folk a chance to show what they can do if given a full set.

First up we'll have Imogen, an Open Mic regular who has just gone from strength to strength when it comes to performing. Exactly the kind of person these Sunday sessions were designed for, and cannot wait to see her unleashed for a feature length slot!

Next up will be Emily. She's been a couple of times to the Open Mic and we're disappointed to say we have to report a robbery last time she came down... She stole the show! It made sense to put her on with Alex as she wouldn't have come down had it not been for him.

Thirdly, and mostly because he would never forgive me if I made him the "headline" act, Alex himself. His instrumental pieces will just give such a nice relaxing chilled vibe to the whole afternoon.

Finally bringing us home, with possibly some cameos from Alex, Sarah. Now, a little bit of Open Mic lore here as well. Sarah is friends with the manager at Vocation, and when we were discussing the possibility of starting an Open Mic, she was asked about us... We can only assume she said positive things!

A dual featured post today as it feels somewhat poetic.

Firstly, Jason returns tonight (to the Open Mic, not permanently to Sheffield I'm afraid), and we are very excited to have him back. One of our first regulars, and we could not believe our luck that somebody so talented had stumbled across our little venture so early, and not only did they stumble across it, but kept returning every week afterwards. It was the first sign that maybe, just maybe, we were doing something right and there is no doubting that nearly one year on from those early days, we would need be seeing the turnouts we are now without Jason's presence. When he told us he had to move to London, we said there'd always be a spot on our list should he be in the area, and we are so glad he's been able to take us up on that offer. So come down, say hi and it will be great to give Jason the audience his talent deserves. πŸ™‚

Which brings us on to our second featured post, and this is almost a thank you to all of you. Kento may have only come to 2 open mics, but it was his dream to perform during his short time in the Country and you made him feel like an international rockstar. Using the keyboard to do a guitar solo seemed an interesting choice when we had no idea what was going on, but was absolutely amazing to see! Like Jason, should Kento ever find himself in Sheffield on a Tuesday night (that is not the second Tuesday of the month), there will always be a spot on the list for him!

We are on as usual this Tuesday! And to get you in the mood, some pictures from what was a great session last week. Even though it hasn't been the 2 week gap, last Tuesday feels like a lifetime ago and we're really looking forward to doing it all again tomorrow! πŸ™‚

This week's singalong is either TBD or Dragostea Din Tei depending on how people feel about potentially butchering another language (/aren't fed up with it from Sen-Fest) πŸ˜…

This week's suggestion game: I'm not saying you're old, all I'm saying is blank e.g. I'm not saying you're old, all I'm saying is that I would call it "a fall" if you tripped over something. Best suggestion wins a free pint.

Acoustic Open Mic Tuesdays* at Vocation & Co. An inclusive and safe space for you to showcase your talents between 19.00 and 22.30 in the wonderful Vocation & Co bar on Devonshire Street. 2 Mics, a House Guitar and House Cajon provided, complete with a sing-a-long at the end of every night and a game to keep those non-performers involved.

*Except 2nd Tuesday of the month

The Boring Stuff

The list will be on a first come first serve basis and opens at 19:00, but we may not start til 19:30 if there isn't a big enough crowd yet. The first 10 names on the list will be guaranteed 3 songs/15 minutes if spoken word. After that, it will depend on time as we will end on the performance that passes 22.30.

All styles and abilities welcome, please be respectful of all performers, and indeed everyone in the bar. Remember every great performer started out somewhere.

Our set up can handle 2 Mics and 2 DIs and it is an acoustic Open Mic, so a cajon or bass DI'd is welcome, but no amps or drum kits please.

We do want to be accommodating and if you are a vocalist only, or can only turn up beyond a certain time and struggle to get on the list, please contact us in advance and we will try to work something out that is fair.

Reminder, that for Saturday and Sunday, Sen-Fest! The thing that first put myself and Tom together as hosts and a really fun event. Lots of names you may recognise from Open Mic nights and also, anyone curious as to what Tom and myself do when we perform, we'll have our own slots as well. Free food (not pies) as well, but you can also order, if not the, one of the best pies in Sheffield! πŸ™‚

This is Jack, one of our ever-growing rotation of regular performers. If you remember Ryan from our featured post a few weeks ago (and not Ryan from a few months ago πŸ˜…), Jack plays lead guitar in his band Whether Jack turns up alone, or with Ryan to play some lead guitar, we know we are getting a quality piece of entertainment. He can also vouch for how good Happy Lemon is for food if the kitchen is ever closed at Vocation, and is a great supportive audience member.

We can't guarantee that Jack will be there tonight, but we can guarantee that other talented folk and supportive audience members, like Jack, will be. Come down and say hi. πŸ™‚

Announcements

So quickly, tonight and Heathens are playing at The Washington, then on 29th of August, Joel ( ) is playing at The Green Room at 17:00 (unfortunately clashes with me playing, but some people may prefer his music and that is completely fine).

Now the ones more pertinent to us.

Sen-Fest has snuck up on us, can't believe it is less than 10 days away! For the first time in 7 years it will be a 2 day event and it is fair to say there is a reasonable chance that our Open Mic wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Sen-Fest. It was Senh's genius? madness? desperation? that after lockdown got myself and Tom to start being the hosts.

It's one of my favourite weekends of the year and there is bucket loads of talent on display (regulars at the Open Mic may recognise some of the names on the line up), and in the midst of all the talented acts, myself and Tom will perform as well.

We're also very happy to announce our next Sunday Showcation, and it will also kind of double up as an EP launch for Alex aka Lanterns, which he has recorded with our good friends at AMSC studios.
