Just the 1/kind of 2 this time

Joel, aka Disarray, will be playing his first ever gig this Sunday. I recognise one of the names on this list and know he's in good company on this line up!

Reminders from our previous announcements:

Heathens are performing at The Washington Friday 26th of June, they are also releasing their debut single Eliza May

Our friendly neighbourhood Kase releases his debut album and has an associated gig on the 1st of July (details on his Instagram)

And on 12th of July we will be having our first Sunday Showcase, a nice chilled afternoon with 4 talented acoustic acts

So plenty of live entertainment available if you're seeking it 😉

This is Joel. One of our regular performers, we're so delighted he stumbled across us via Facebook, and has returned many times since he first popped down. It's been amazing to see his confidence grow and for him to become part of our ever-growing community and to hear him play his original songs. Somehow one of our regular audience members, Oliver, keeps missing his cover of Psycho Killer which is a bit of a fan favourite.

We can't guarantee Joel will be down tonight, but there will be other wonderful performers and audience members like Joel ready to welcome, entertain and support you. So come down and say "hi" 🙂

We are on as per usual this Tuesday, yes, we are aware there is an England game, but... we are also aware that not everyone follows football. So, even if we have less down than usual, we will not cement anyone's hatred of football by cancelling something that brings them joy because of it (Nick may let Tom pick up his slack a bit so he can catch some of it on his phone though 😅). We can always start getting people up again if everyone has played with time to spare. 🙂

This week's singalong is to be decided. This week's suggestion game, a return to the easiest format: Things you can say at a sports event or in the bedroom e.g. "oh, just put it in already"

Acoustic Open Mic Tuesdays* at Vocation & Co. An inclusive and safe space for you to showcase your talents between 19.00 and 22.30 in the wonderful Vocation & Co bar on Devonshire Street. 2 Mics, a House Guitar and House Cajon provided, complete with a sing-a-long at the end of every night and a game to keep those non-performers involved.

*Except 2nd Tuesday of the month

The Boring Stuff

The list will be on a first come first serve basis and opens at 19:00, but we may not start til 19:30 if there isn't a big enough crowd yet. The first 10 names on the list will be guaranteed 3 songs/15 minutes if spoken word. After that, it will depend on time as we will end on the performance that passes 22.30.

All styles and abilities welcome, please be respectful of all performers, and indeed everyone in the bar. Remember every great performer started out somewhere.

Our set up can handle 2 Mics and 2 DIs and it is an acoustic Open Mic, so a cajon or bass DI'd is welcome, but no amps or drum kits please.

We do want to be accommodating and if you are a vocalist only, or can only turn up beyond a certain time and struggle to get on the list, please contact us in advance and we will try to work something out that is fair.

Gigs

July 12th

The big one for us. Our first of hopefully a once a month Sunday Showcase Session. We have confirmed our first line up:

Opening for us will be Tom D, has been to most Open Mics since he first turned up and the most helpful and selfless attendee you could ever hope for. It just feels right to give him up to 50 minutes to play whatever he wants to.

Second on the bill, we have Ananya, our most regular of regulars, has been to almost every Open Mic since we started. She was the first name that came to mind when we came up with this idea.

Thirdly Jess, who you want have seen on any social media posts apart from her featured post as she prefers not to be video'd. This will be somewhat a farewell gig for Jess as her time at university comes to an end and she heads back home. It's a shame to see her go, but glad we can give her a proper farewell.

And finally, rounding off the afternoon, we have Ashley. He made quite the impression when he came down and has been an active part of the community as he starts down his music recording career, having already worked with myself, he is also currently working with Ananya on her first recording. It will be great to have him back playing at Vocation.

Friday 19th Burning Bouquet supporting Unfinished Stories at Greenhouse

Saturday 20th Burning Bouquet EP release headline show at Sidney & Matilda

Friday 26th of June, Heathens are playing at The Washington or, should you prefer, Sithabile is putting on an evening of music at Castleton

Wednesday 1st of July, Kase is playing a headline show with a full band at Hallamshire Hotel

I've tagged the artist on the poster so you can find ticket details on their Instagram pages

Upcoming Releases

19th of June Scarlett Kirwan is releasing a new single called Supersonic Girl, also Burning Bouquet are releasing their debut EP

21st of June I am releasing the first version of These Are The Good Days, a song I wrote about the Open Mic

Finally, but by no means least, Kase will be releasing his debut album on 31st of June

Plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks and if I've got nothing wrong in the above, I'll be very surprised!

This is Anya, she has come down to a fair amount of Open Mics and we're so glad every time she returns. If you religiously follow our socials, you may remember we shared some of her artwork previously, and her cover of MGMT - Kids was particularly memorable. One of those people that if talent was a limited resource, had definitely taken more than their share! Thankfully it isn't, so we can just appreciate it among the other talents we've had the pleasure of hosting.

Like many of our performers, not only is she a talented musician, she is also wonderfully supportive of the other performers, and a friendly face. We can't guarantee that Anya will be there tonight, but we can guarantee that people like Anya will be ready to entertain, be entertained, applaud, say hi and support. 🙂

We are back this week. And did you know that if you book a table on a Tuesday night (tell them it's for the Open Mic so they put you on the correct side), you get 10% off your food? To get you in the mood for some shenanigans, here are some photos from our last outing, and can I just say, what an outing it was! Going to be seriously hard to top it, but we reckon you guys can do it 😉

This week's suggestion game: The worst thing to hear after "I hope you don't mind, but" when arriving at a gathering, e.g "I hope you don't mind, but my mother has popped over unannounced so can you make sure not to swear, and we need to keep it quiet after 20:30".

This week's singalong is TBD. I've not learnt any new songs and we've been through my repertoire of well known songs, so happy for someone else to take the lead if they have one, or repeat one we've done before! 🤣

Announcement:

On the 12th of July we will be doing a Showcase Session at Vocation & Co. We hope that this will be the first of many, and our plan is these will be the Sunday directly preceding the second Tuesday of the month (subject to there being no other bookings)

We are looking for people to play on this, and future Showcase Sundays. We've primarily set this up to give an opportunity to some of our regulars who may not have gigged/regularly be gigging. As such, whilst anyone who wishes to play will be considered, we will be taking the above into account when deciding who to put on.

We like to be upfront about things, it will be unpaid, although a tip jar and a drink for each performer will be provided so you at least get something. So again, if you are regularly performing, and getting paid to do so, this may not be for you, but you're more than welcome down if you would like to play. 🙂

Drop us a message if you're interested 😊

07/06/2026

No Open Mic this week, yes, it is the second Tuesday of the month this week, so if you head down to Vocation & Co expecting entertainment, there will be some in the form of a Pub Quiz (winner gets a £50 tab), but no entertainment of the Open Mic variety. Incidentally, if you book a table on any Tuesday (either pub quiz or Open Mic), you get 10% off your food.

Happily though, there's an extra Tuesday in June, so we get to do 4 Tuesdays in a row 🥳 Til then, stay beautiful out there, wish the next shop assistant/server in a restaurant who aids in your purchasing of items/food the most marvellous of days.
