Slam of the North is going to be in Durham this year, and we'd love to see your auditions if you want to come! They will be in the second half of next week's Open Mic– that's in our usual spot upstairs in Red Deer (S1 4DD), starting at 19:30 on Monday the 12th of May.

The first half of the Open Mic will be our usual fare of non-competitive performers who have five minutes to perform up to three poems. Auditioners can perform one poem which can be up to three minutes, as per SotN rules.

Special people are visiting to judge the auditions but they will be very nice 🥺 I promise.

Slam of the North will be at 19:30 on Friday the 30th of May, in Sir Thomas Allen Assembly rooms, a beautiful theatre next to Durham Cathedral. Travel will be sorted and the event will finish early enough that no overnight stay will be necessary. SotN is a competition between individuals rather than teams, however, we can only bring three competitors. Good luck!

April's open mic will be on the day after UniSlam, so expect some very sleepy hosts. 😴

That said, we're looking forward to hearing local voices once again. Join us next Monday, upstairs in Red Deer, at 19:30 as usual for some good vibes and diatribes.

It's that time of year again! We've had a wonderful time looking after PoeSoc, and now we can't wait to find out who will give the soc another year.

Our AGM will be at 18:00 on Monday the 31st of March. Keep your eyes peeled for a confirmed location! 👀

For PoeSoc to continue we must elect the "Core Four" positions:

President, who leads the committee and represents the soc

Treasurer, who handles the finances

Secretary, who handles logistics and communications

Inclusion Officer, who ensures that the soc welcomes people from all walks of life

Electing these positions will be our top priority for the AGM, however, if we manage to fill Core Four and there are more people who would like to pitch in for next year's committee, we can open up new positions– the more, the merrier! Common extra committee positions are Social Sec, Social Media Sec, Events Officer, etc.

All soc members are allowed to vote. All incumbent committee members will be supported by current committee members once elected (we're very nice and very helpful!).

If you would like to apply for a committee position, follow the link to the application form in our bio.

Good luck!

We have special guests for next week's workshop, so be sure to pop by!

Dr Amber Regis and Dr Fabienne Collingnon will join us in Classroom 02, 38 Mappin Street, 19:00 on Monday 17th.

We’ll be exploring how post-structuralist theatre can help writers to get over self consciousness and self-doubt, ignore the rules, and have fun writing in a freeing and playful way.

This will be our last workshop for a few weeks, as the UniSlam team will be using the time for rehearsals until they compete in April.

On the 24th we will have a session all about clear delivery. Tongue twisters guaranteed.

All workshops are scheduled to be in 38 Mappin Street, Classroom 02 for the foreseeable future. Yippee :D
