34 people saved...... talk about being there for the community...

Take a second and picture that.

34 birthdays.

34 Christmases.

34 mums that never had to answer the knock at the door they feared most.

34 families who got another hug.

34 people who were struggling

Who got another chance at life.

This is Rizwan Javed. And this was not a one moment of instinct...this is 34 different times...he stepped up

Most people walk through a railway station looking at their phone.

Rizwan looks at people.

He notices the bloke standing just a little too close to the platform edge.

The woman who's been pacing for too long.

The person staring into the distance when everyone else is rushing past.

Then he does something so simple...

He walks over.

He says hello.

He listens.

He gives them enough hope to make it through one more minute.

Then another.

Then another.

Since receiving mental health training in 2015...

Thirty-four people who reached the point where they believed there was no way forward...and came to his station to do the unthinkable....

Are still here.

Think about that.

34 people who have laughed again.

34 people who have hugged their children again.

Because one man choose to step up..

Rizwan has received awards.

An MBE.

Recognition from Samaritans.

Recognition from the railway.

But when people call him a hero...

He shrugs it off.

He says he simply learned how to recognise when someone was struggling...

Had the courage to walk over...

And took the time to listen.

I think that's a lesson for all of us.

You never know what battle someone else is fighting.

Sometimes you don't need all the answers.

Sometimes...

You just need to be the person who starts the conversation.

Because you took the time to stop and ask about theirs.

Thats today's hero... today we let the world know good men walk amongst us..
