Well here we are, we now say goodbye to our wonderful Hannah Rands!
We feel extremely lucky to have had Hannah with us from being a student, then an assistant, to joint Choreographer, head of social media and assisting with a lot of getting Matilda ready this year.

Hannah, you're going to go far and its been wonderful to see your grow from Primary school to a wonderful young lady.

Thankyou from the bottom of my heart and everyone involved in Imagine Theatre Academy.

BUT!!! If you want to have one more class with Hannah, she is doing a summer school workshop of Six the musical, at St Columba on Wednesday 20th August.

Stay safe Hannah and enjoy every moment at University.

Our Minis Academy have put on their sunnies and their party outfits because we are all ready for summer time!!!

What an incredible year it has been, our Minis rehearsing and performing Annie and our older Academy rehearsing and performing Matilda and what amazing performances they both were šŸŽ

We have loved every minute working with all our students but it is now time for summer and time to relax and regain our energy ready for next year so we wish everyone a lovely summer filled with fun, sun and much needed sleep 😓

Remember to book your children onto the summer school (hopefully led by Hannah) and we will see you all either there or in the new term šŸ’•

As we reflect on an incredible show weekend, we just wanted to share our incredible Matilda’s - Millie’s - version of Quiet. I’m sure we can all agree how amazing this is, I’m not sure there were many dry eyes left after it (not back stage anyways!) šŸ¤

WOW we’re not sure what to say 🄲

This week will be one we definitely won’t forget!šŸ’•

It has been an absolute honour to watch every single student grow throughout the rehearsals and now shine on the stage. We truly have a group of extremely talented children with very futures!

We hope you are as proud as we are as a team and we know they will all sleep very well tonight šŸ˜‚šŸ˜“

If you would like to sign up for our summer school (hopefully led by Hannah!) get in touch with Jonny asap!!

We want to finish this post with one final big thank you to the students and the audiences I truly means a lot to Imagine Theatre and we hope to see you next year!!! šŸ’œ

Our latest review below and on our website is of Imagine Theatre Academy Matilda The Musical Jr. at the University Drama Studio until Saturday 28 June.

"I am often a bit wary of musical theatre adaptions of well-loved novels so was delighted to find Roald Dahl meeting the music and lyrics of comedian / musician Tim Minchin is the prefect combination or an outstanding musical, paying great respect to the book (the opening number ā€œMiracleā€ starts off covering the first few pages of the book – and I should know as I started reading it to my five year old daughter only a few days ago) whilst bringing the story up to date for the 21st century.

The best performances of the night came from Millie Fletcher as Matilda Wormwood, whose performance would not have been out of place leading the West End production of the show, with amazing stage confidence, charisma, chemistry with the cast, attitude and that special something which made you believe she would be capable of Matilda’s own magic and whose vocal talents showed their full stunning range in her number ā€œQuietā€. Also up there was Imogen Wilson as Miss Honey, who Roald Dahl himself couldn’t have cast better and in a few years time I can easily see having a career in teaching and being the teacher children love as much as Matilda does or following Millie in into the West End production. She added a beautiful ending to the ensemble number ā€œWhen I Grow Upā€ that all adults can relate to.

I must also mention Charlie Fletcher as Bruce Bogtrotter, who proved the must talented performers (like the best things) can come in the smallest packages, with so much attitude and fun and reminding me of Thomas Brodie-Sangster in Love Actually. I hope that Charlie likes chocolate cake as it looks like he will be served up it every night but also how much the ensemble supported him during the ā€œBruceā€ number.

You can’t mention Matilda without mentioning the villainous headmistress Mrs Trunchbull and although Theo Pollinger’s interpretation might not at first have been what I was expecting he made the evil ex-hammer thrower his own and his vocals were superb and reminiscence of old school Disney animated villains, joined by beautiful harmonies from the ensemble in ā€œThe Hammerā€. Finally I must mention Lyndon Cole and Elinore Phillips who play Matilda’s parents Mr and Mrs Wormwood and whose performances seemed to be a clever combination of Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman’s performances in the 1996 film with the current Barclays adverts where you see the child versions of the customers and whose scenes gave me flashbacks to parts of the book I had forgotten.

The whole ensemble offer a fun combination of attitude, confidence and friendship in all their numbers and the choreography and harmonies (thanks to choreographer Izzy MacAskill and assistant choreographer Hannah Rands and singing coach Brogan Nichol) was full of attitude, vibrancy and fun in every number from when the curtain first rose to the iconic finale ā€œRevolting Childrenā€.

This production, directed by Sue Curr and produced by Jonny White, will persuade any children in the audience to want to join Imagine Theatre Academy, or be their classmates (but without Miss Trunchbull) as the cast’s friendship shone through and you could tell they enjoyed every single minute of the production.

I can’t wait to see Matilda The Musical again and whether you are a fan of book, the film or have already seen and fallen in love with the musical or just want to see the future of youth musical theatre in Sheffield this is one show not to miss."

We thought we couldn’t be any more impressed or proud and once again these children have proved us wrong!

They just get better and better and we as a team - I’m sure the audience would agree - believe we have a group full of so so much talent, joy and confidence that would leave anyone WOWed 🤩

Please don’t miss out on our last 2 shows and buy those tickets, because, if they are anything like our last 2 nights, you do NOT want to miss it šŸ’•
