Casting call for Three Post Apocalyptic Comedians Walk Into A Bar…

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: 5PM FRIDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER.

Male professional actor

Playing age: 25 – 65

Ethnicity: any – we encourage people from non-white backgrounds to apply.

Experience: must have solid experience working on stage and some experience working in interactive or non-traditional audience settings.

We’re looking for a versatile, confident actor who enjoys working in non-traditional performance, who can play multiple-roles with ease and who has a good sense of comic timing. May be required to sing as part of a group (very simple harmonies). Good sense of rhythm (for hand clapping). Experience with puppetry desirable but not essential. You’ll need to learn lines in advance of rehearsals.

Fee: tbc but likely to be in the region of £270 for 25 hours work (including rehearsals, tech and one show). No expenses can be paid so performers should be based in or near Sheffield.

Dates: Show: Must be available all daytime and evening Thursday 26 October. Rehearsals will take place across 2-3 days (daytimes) in the two weeks before the show.

The show: Stuffed Horse Theatre has been commissioned to produce a new show: ‘Three Post Apocalyptic Comedians Walk Into A Bar…’ as part of the Rebuild Festival. Alongside three other commissions it will take place at Dina Venue in Sheffield on 26 October 2017. The piece is a non-narrative, fun, entertaining performance combining dramatic scenes with cabaret-style performance, storytelling and puppetry! It is short – probably around 40mins and will be performed by three actors who will take on various roles, including directly interacting with the audience. Once the piece has been premiered, there may be scope to develop it further with a view to producing a full-length version and / or touring to other venues.

The show will only succeed with commitment and enthusiasm from its actors. Please only apply if you are genuinely interested in the project and are a trained actor or have substantial experience and are working as an actor. You should be registered with Spotlight.

'We will re-build society by reinterpreting the past. We’ll re-mesh ourselves into the natural world, turn our backs on democracy, laugh loudly at ourselves, tell each other fantastic stories and run a tombola.

Stuffed Horse presents a lively, fun show which meshes real scenes from the future with audience games, gripping stories and a light sprinkling of puppetry.'

The show has been commissioned by Mesters Events as part of their Rebuild Festival - a celebration of theatre, the end of the world and the building of new ones. We are one of four theatre companies who will come together with four unique productions to create an incredible evening of immersive and interactive performance.
