Something is going down at Light Cinema Sheffield. We've managed to release 5 more day passes for Saturday - which includes the UK premiere of The Lock In - and to celebrate we have teamed up with the Lock In cast and crew to produce a kung-fu short all of our very own.

Tickets are selling very well for Spirit of Independence 2026. There are a handful of day and weekend passes left, and you can still get tickets to the individual feature films and short film collections. Individual tickets for The Lock In are now SOLD OUT so, if you want to see the UK premiere of Rotherham’s first kung-fu movie then you need to get a Saturday or festival pass.

Thanks to everyone who has bought a ticket or pass so far, your support means everything to us. The festival takes place at The Light Sheffield between the 25th and 27th September.

The closing film of the festival is Mum, I’m Alien Pregnant - the debut feature from THUNDERLIPS, an award winning filmmaker duo from New Zealand who have made a funny, gooey and gross body-horror comedy that says more about modern parenthood, casual relationships and pregnancy anxiety that you could possibly ever imagine. A millennial slacker has a laundry room experience with her neighbours son (the one with the “weird pen*s”) which leads her on a journey of discovering body autonomy, parental instincts and, well, lots of gloop and tentacles…
