Cellar Theatre’s Final Curtain
That’s all folks. After 2 years, 3 months, 139 events and thousands of volunteer hours, Cellar Theatre has come to an end. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has acted, sung, danced, played, watched, worked, volunteered and rehearsed at Cellar Theatre since we began this project in October 2017. It was a huge task building a theatre from a disused beer cellar. So many people put in hard and thankless graft with the belief in the idea that we could make a DIY theatre in the heart of Sheffield really work. And it did.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to DINA Venue, for giving the trust, space and mentorship needed for a group of young people to run a fully-functioning venue. Thank you to UnLtd, South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation, Arts Council England, Social Enterprise Exchange, and to anyone who made a donation or bought a ticket. Your belief in Cellar Theatre kept it running!
The Cellar will continue to be used by DINA Venue as an events space for the arts and you can follow them via this link: https://www.facebook.com/The-Cellar-Sheffield-108512647426455/ There's going to be some great club nights happening there so do keep your eye out!
Here’s to the continued success of DIY performance spaces and venues in Sheffield. Everywhere they might spring up. They occupy an important niche in our city’s great culture.
A part of the DINA family, The Cellar is an intimate 55 capacity club venue, exploring electronic music in the heart of Sheffield.
The Cellar is also host to diverse performance arts events, holding regular comedy, spoken word and theatre.
