As the new academic year is upon us - we begin our Home Education sessions again. Our sessions run throughout term time on a Wednesday and Thursday 12.30-2.30 and we currently have 2 spaces available on each day for children ages 11-16. Browse collection - come rain or shine. Our zoo is lucky enough to be set within a 200+ acre country park, which is great news at this time of year for collection. Browse provides a great additional source of nutrition for a range of our animals - including llama, alpaca, sheep, ponies, reindeer, lemurs, porcupine, guinea pigs and harvest mice.

Recently, we’ve added a new enrichment feeder to the lemur enclosure. Here’s their first time using it, and as you can see, it’s gone down very well! Enrichment is important for all animals, but particularly for primates, as they are highly intelligent. Keeping them mentally stimulated is key to their overall wellbeing.

Although the lemurs have a huge climbing structure to explore, their favourite place to relax is on their logs, where they often sunbathe, nap and groom each other. If you’re visiting the zoo, be sure to look out for them on their logs — it’s where you’re most likely to spot them!

Dove chicks could be on the way soon! 🐣💚

Our emerald doves have laid eggs, and we’re hoping they’ll hatch over the next couple of weeks! 🤞

Meet Karen Beverley - one of our prairie dog pups from this year. We noticed that she wasn’t putting on weight as fast as her sisters and so she was taken to the vets for a full health check and x-ray. Here we found that her jaw has not formed/aligned correctly meaning her teeth will not allow her to eat properly. The decision was made to remove her from the group and continue her care with keepers hand-rearing her. She is booked in for an operation later this month to remove her incisors. I think you will agree we must try everything we can for such a beautiful little girl.
