One of the things I love about working with clay is that it grounds you in the elements, you're working with earth, fire and water. Another is the incredible sense of historical legacy. Humans have done this for millennia for reasons of utility, celebration and religion. My go-to in museums has always been the prehistoric section because there is a simplicity and an honesty in the artefacts. They carry the weight of all that history and yet remain accessible and appealing. So while I can't claim IP on the animals I've been making since they're copies of these ancient forms, I'm enjoying celebrating the very long relationship we have had with clay.
When I'm making them they all get slightly cringeworthy nicknames, so meet Conchita the rhyton, Ramdolph, and Rex, who's been wanting to play for 4,000 years!

What an absolute feast for the eyes is Cupola Contemporary-Art current exhibition! Celebrating 35 years, it's showing 150 artists so there really is something for everyone.
