Join .nativa_festival on Sunday, August 11th, from 11 AM to 9 PM, a lively celebration of the arts, culture and people from Abya Yala.

Immerse yourself in this community gathering, free and open to all, that will showcase an alternative side of the (wrongly called) American continent, rooted in tradition and diversity.

ALTER.NATIVA invites the broader community to explore and embrace the rich cultural heritage of “Latin America’’ from a decolonial perspective. Experience a day filled with music and culture representing diverse communities across the continent. Enjoy delicious food, browse a lively market, and participate in family-friendly activities and workshops. Learn about crucial topics -such as decolonialism, cultural appropriation, domestic violence awareness, new masculinities, and more. Engage in body workshops focusing on voice and movement.

The festival will feature poetry and music from all over the continent, culminating in a vibrant rueda with the traditional sounds of bullerengue and gaita music.
We hope to see you there and experience a day of connection, learning, and celebration together!

Trusting you are having a blessed start of the day!
We are supper excited and honoured to be hosting several gatherings this week with amazing guests that are visiting from Colombia so please get your calendars out and make sure you don’t miss these incredible opportunities to experience, support and learn about these powerful ancestral Afro-Colombian traditions:

1. Wednesday 22nd of May: La Bulla Bullerenguera with special guest: @ Seven Sisters 8:30pm. He’ll be facilitating a pre-rueda workshop before gracing us with his voice, dance and drumming during the rueda.

2. Saturday 25th of May: Pio Molina and Viento Suelto (Kings Cross) 8pm, performing traditional gaita music with special guests and (two AMAZING gaita players recently arrived from Colombia)

3. Sunday 26th of May: El Pichindé, a drumming workshop and jam facilitated by Pio Molina, with live gaita music by Viento Suelto Gaita Club focusing on the different rhythms of Gaita music. 5:30pm

This FRIDAY 13th of May we are forming the Bololó with the guaranteed sabrosura stamp.

We have prepared an amazing night to celebrate two powerful afro traditions with infectious rhythms and energetic performances.

We are really exited to welcome who comes from a traditional Bwa Bwa Griot family of musicians and craftsmen from Burkina Faso/Mali who have been keeping this tradition for generations. His explosive performance is charged with drums and the beautiful sound of the Balafon prising to his ancestors and celebrating the West African tradition of Manden.

Akolá Tambó

Akolá Tambó, with its trance-inducing bullerengue, presents a blaze of traditional Afro-Colombian beats that will take you on a journey to reconnect to the root. A high dose of drums, dance and mantra-like chants gives birth to this ancestral ritual in which everyone is invited to take part, unify their voices and become one.

Koroleko Moussa Dembele:

Koroleko play thrilling and original, contemporary West African music throughout the UK and Europe. Headed by the charismatic and talented multi-instrumentalist Moussa Dembele from a traditional Bwa Bwa Griot family from Burkina Faso and Mali. He was trained by his father and various family members from a young age and he is now a reference of this tradition in the UK.

To add to the ‘sabrosura’
