✨SHOWCASING LOCAL BUSINESSES✨
Kamikaze Tortoise Studio
Hi, I’m Julie a local artist.
I got my MA from Margaret Street in Birmingham in 2016 and have been setting myself up since my degree as a professional contemporary artist.
When I came to Seaton it was with the intention to have a dedicated studio which is where I now work, display artwork and store my equipment and materials.
I do a lot of activities - exhibit, donate, take part in groups, get work framed to sell, occasionally a commission, and try to find ways to show my work.
It’s a busy life which I try to manage efficiently in a not for profit way, selling cards and postcards to fund exhibition submissions and buying equipment and upgrading the studio from sales. Everything is ploughed back in to try to keep going and produce authentic pieces.
It’s not for the faint hearted!
I try to make meaningful pieces in the genres of sculpture painting and photography. My themes have encompassed the cosmos the pandemic and women’s empowerment for exhibition.
Occasionally and enjoyably I have produced floral designs which have allowed people to access my work through a more popular offering.
My current focus has been on coastal imagery - mainly abstract photography - and small figurative sculptures. I’m also working on a new torso with coastal found objects. It’s a joy to live in Seaton with great people and involvement in local life at AYC and lately STC.
