Powerfest at Melbourne Raceway Expect lots of cool dubs, entertainment, traders etc and add to the mix a drag strip. What's not to like.....

A full on high octane weekend of drag racing, live music, traders and more. A weekend for all the family all taking place at the best drag strip in the north.

We have been informed of promotion this week of ‘Powerfest’ running at Melbourne Raceway and people have been in touch to see if we are involved with it. The answer to that is no we aren’t.

Powerfest was the premier event at York Raceway in it’s time there and last year at Melbourne Raceway. It was created largely by me and my team who brought the festival vibe to the raceway. That doesn’t diminish the raceway in any way but Powerfest stood tall as the biggest supported event and the feedback still confirms it as the venue’s best event in our time which was largely due to the entertainment package on the show field.

We presented a brilliant weekend last year but we made the decision not to return as the working relationship did not work between the respective organisers. There were very clear reasons for that and we maintain our position that a lifestyle event needs to be managed in accordance with the Event Management Plan, as that is the most reliable way of ensuring people’s enjoyment, safety and welfare at the weekend.

Our team worked tirelessly every year to make Powerfest a cracking weekend. In continuing the name it is apparent the raceway acknowledge how important the Powerfest weekend is to the venue. It is hoped the raceway will be able to offer the same vibe and quality of experience in keeping with what we built over the 5 years we ran there.

We’ve said it before but we say it again………we want to thank all of our team who grafted so hard over the years, those raceway staff who worked with us to create the magic and all of you who attended and supported us in our time at the raceway. It was a blast but we’re content that this ‘good thing’ came to an end.

We are receiving a number of enquiries regarding Powerfest and dates for 2023.

We will not be returning to Melbourne Raceway with Powerfest.

The Powerfest weekend this year was an absolute belter and built on the event when it ran with York Raceway. We want to thank all the staff and helpers involved with the running of the event at the Raceway who worked with us over the weekend, either as York Raceway or as Melbourne Raceway. Together we created some real magic and created many memories. A massive thanks to all those who came along and supported us over the years – it was hugely appreciated and we hope you also have good memories from the event.

Thanks for reading and wherever your cars or vans may take you, enjoy! We will of course be returning with Volkspower from 14 to 16 July 2023. So, if you fancy a weekender at the seaside at Redcar, get your tickets bought – www.volkpower.co.uk

We will be running a further order of Powerfest t-shirts as we have had requests for differing sizes. If you missed out on one and would still like one, then please DM us and provide your email address and size of tee required. We will then invoice you for payment. Once payment is made we will place the order (which will be placed on Thursday 19/05) and post them out on receipt. The cost will be £10 as we will stand the postage so you’re not paying any more.

We also have some innie car stickers remaining which will be posted out for £2 each.

Well what a weekender at Powerfest……..

The event was a joint venture between Trevor Duckworth and the Straightliners and me and my team. First thanks are to Trevor, the Straightliners and all those volunteers who have given their time to ensure Melbourne Raceway’s infrastructure and facilities are improving all the time with more to come. The venue’s future is bright!!

The strip was bouncing this weekend. All of those who worked strip side deserve a well earned rest as they grafted all weekend to keep the racing going, while working on a capacity turn out of vehicles. A special mention for Pauline Cox and her tireless efforts to raise funds for the venue over the course of the weekend, despite working strip side all day – great effort!!

On the festival field my team also put in a shift to keep everything on track and to ensure the best weekend was had. They’re long days over the weekend and during the set up/take down, and all of them grafted from early morning until late as required. The security, first aid and sound teams provided a quality service throughout and their professionalism shone through.

A big thanks to all of our traders and caterers – the trading area had a nice variety of stall. The music over the weekend was absolutely quality. Just a quick mention of Saturday night headliner, Recognition. The lead singer was unwell and struggled with vocals as a result. We thank them for their professionalism in attending and fulfilling the gig as it would have been easy for them to cancel which would have caused a difficulty at the last minute.

Oklahoma W***y – what can we say??? You were the star of the weekend and made memories for everybody in the crowd. It was a real privilege to bring you to Melbourne and you lit the strip up in an amazing way. A big thanks to Perry Watkins for coming through and presenting something so special.

It was great to see the vehicles out on the show field on Saturday and Sunday. The quality on display was excellent on both days. That’s a side of the event that is sure to grow in the future.

Finally a big thankyou to everyone that attended at Powerfest and made it an absolutely superb weekend at Melbourne Raceway. Without people events don’t happen – spread the word and let’s go bigger and better next year!!!!

We now turn our efforts to Volkspower at Redcar Rugby Club which takes place over the weekend of 08 to 10 July. Tickets are available from the website at www.volkspower.co.uk and keep up to date with us here on Facebook.

Wherever the summer may take you, enjoy being outside in fields again with your mates, and here’s to a great summer in 2022. Keep on dubbin’……….

Happy Sunday morning Powerfest. Here’s to a great last day………

We have a full day on the strip from 10 am today with Oklahoma doing another two runs at approximately 11:30 and 2:30.

In the marquee this morning we have laid out some craft and other items if kids want to check that out from 10am. W e will have music in there from 11 am so do come in and enjoy what’s on offer. The trading area will host the Show n Shine so be sure to come and check out the cars. Yesterday’s show of cars was only small but there were some absolute crackers on display.

Show n Shine results will be announced in the marquee at 2pm and the track action continues until approximately 4:30 to 5pm.

Enjoy!

Good morning Powerfest – It looks like we have a great day of weather ahead. That’s perfect for the racing and the show field.

- The racing kicks off at 10am and runs until 5pm. Oklahoma W***y will be on the strip twice today and we are hoping to see him run at approximately 11 30am and 2 30pm.
- The marquee opens at 9 30am with a free circus workshop for kids of all ages. There is a children’s entertainer from 11am to 1pm and a free face painter from 10am to midday. The bands Funky Business (on at 1 15pm) and Drop Leg Steppers (on at 2 45pm) conclude the daytime entertainment. After that we’re back on at 6 30 pm with our DJ, John Ross, and our bands The Avros and Recognition (playing us out with some Indie bangers)

There is a good choice of catering on the drag strip and on the show field. There is also a can bar just at the edge of the show field near the drag strip.

The First Aid tent is located towards the bottom of the camping field near the front of the marquee area where the stage is. If you need any attention then look out for the flag just behind the stage area. There is also another disabled toilet there should it be needed by those genuinely needing to use it.

Have a fantastic today and enjoy all that Melbourne Raceway has to offer!!

The weather forecast is looking just fine for the weekend. Good warmer days on Saturday and Sunday with little wind, so looking spot on for the racing with full days of amazing track action to enjoy. Don't forget to have a look at the show field as well for traders, more caterers and the entertainment marquee. The official Show n Shine is on Sunday but we are accepting show cars on Saturday as well. It's getting exciting..........🤙
