We had another hardworking crew at the hall yesterday tackling the next stage of preparations, bringing down the remaining lighting and removing all of the sound cabling ahead of the refurbishment works.

A massive thank you to Christopher, Nigel, Andy, Tim and Jim for giving up their Sunday afternoon to help out. Your time, effort and willingness to lend a hand are truly appreciated.

We’re so lucky to have such a fantastic team of members and family supporting GADS every step of the way. 💙

A huge thank you once again to our incredible team of volunteers who have spent another very productive day at the hall, moving back into our storage area and helping prepare the main hall for the Phase 2 refurbishment work.

We’re making fantastic progress!
All of our costumes are now back on the rails, photographed, and being uploaded to our database. Half the costume shelves have been stacked - other half to be done once the shelves have been attached to the wall.
The props shelving is fully stocked, the lighting store shelving has been built and filled.

The team have also removed and safely stored all of the lighting and cabling from the stage, along with the wiring from the hall lights ready for the lights to be brought down and stored and all the speakers removed and stored.

A brilliant day’s work by a wonderful group of people – and, of course, plenty of cake was consumed along the way! 🍰😜

Thanks to Christopher, Tina, Benita, Melvyn, Viv, Nigel, Jess, Jim, Carolyn, Caroline, Annette and Alison. You are all a gods send 😘

Another fantastic workshop last night, led by the fabulous Arien Van Den Elzen! 🎭🎶

We had a brilliant evening exploring Acting Through Song, learning how to bring songs to life through character, storytelling and performance. Everyone threw themselves into the session and came away having learned something new.

A huge thank you to Arien for giving up her time, sharing her expertise and running such an engaging workshop. And thank you to everyone who came along, got involved and gave it their all – your enthusiasm made the evening what it was!

Our next event is our monthly Plays 4 Pleasure reading on Tuesday 6th October, from 7.30pm at the Kellbank. This month we’ll be reading 2:22 A Ghost Story by Danny Robins.

Secrets will emerge, ghosts may appear, and things might not be quite what they seem… 👻 Spine-chilling, funny and frightening in equal measure.

Whether you’d like to read a part or simply listen along, we’d love to see you there!

21/09/2026

Dont forget! Our next workshop is taking place tomorrow - Tuesday 22nd September at 7.30pm

Acting Through Song, led by Arien van den Elzen 🎶

📍 St Mary’s Room, St Mary’s Church, Gosforth (not the usual Public Hall!)

Technique brought to you by Mountview Academy alumi to build your confidence as a performer.

As always, our workshops are friendly, relaxed and open to everyone of all abilities aged 14+ so why not come along and give it a try? If you would like the opportunity to sing on your own please let us know what song you would like to do (musical number) so we can have backing music for you. There is no pressure and you can decide on the night if you’d like to have a go or not. Some suggestions are on the poster.

If you’d like to join us, just pop a comment below so we can get a rough idea of numbers. 😊

Another very productive Saturday at our GADS base. This time our fabulous volunteers have removed all of our costumes and the majority of our props from the storage containers and have achieved huge amounts of steps moving it all back into our storage area!
A smaller team then started to position shelves and boxes and all we can say it is started to look really good!

A massive thank you to Benita, Christopher, Melvyn, Viv, Annette, Nigel, Caroline, Alison and John Reed for giving up their time, and i hope your not hurting too much after the morning of stairs exercises!

We will be in again next Saturday to hopefully finish of the shelves and then the weekend of the 3rd October taking all out lights and sound equipment out of the main hall before phase 2 work starts in there. If you can spare an hour or two please us a shout, any help would be gratefully received.

Not too many photos of Saturday i’m afraid as we were so busy.
