Big thank you to everyone who came to our acting workshop last night. A very interesting and informative evening with some fun activities to get us thinking about the skills that help to give a believable acting performance.
Huge thanks to Richard Ellis for leading it.

Our next event is our Plays for Pleasure session on Tuesday 8th September, 7.30pm, in the Kellbank function room when we’ll be reading the comedy farce ‘Cash On Delivery!’ by Michael Cooney.
Everyone is welcome to come along and read, or just listen.

Dont forget , our next event is our “Finding Truth and Reality in Acting” workshop this Tuesday 25th August, 7.30-9.30pm at Gosforth Public Hall.

This workshop will be led by Richard Ellis, and is set to be a great evening of practical and fun activities to stimulate your imagination and help make your acting more natural and realistic. Open to everyone age 14+, whether a seasoned actor or complete beginner

And that’s a wrap! After a fabulous week of drama games, workshops and rehearsals our young people put on an amazing show to a packed out auditorium.

The team are SO proud of what this group have achieved in such a short time. The performance was fabulous and we have had great feedback from our audience. Huge huge thank you to Benita Blacklock and Annette Johnstone, who stepped in to organise and run the fabulous week and to Jim Polmear, Alison Fligg, Tina Wilson-Ferris, Nicola Fox and Maria Tyson for supporting throughout the week. Thank you to all that came to support us, to Gosforth CofE School for letting us hold the workshop with you this week, to Whitehaven Theatre Group, Whitehaven and District Amateur Operatic Society and Crew Rocks NW Ltd for helping us with props and costumes.

🎭 Day Three of our Youth Summer Workshop is complete –

We managed to do two full play run throughs (the second one without scripts)
All the hard work the cast have put in to define characters has paid off and the production team are so impressed with what the cast have achieved in such a short space of time.

Everyone is working incredibly hard to put on the best production for our audience while managing to have a bit of fun too.

🎭 Day Three of our Youth Summer Workshop is complete – and we’re getting ever closer to performance day!

Today the cast took part in sessions led by Alison focusing on diction, projection, vocal warm-ups and learning our final song. These skills are so important for helping performers communicate clearly, confidently and bring their characters to life on stage.

This afternoon we put everything we’ve learned over the past three days into practice with a full run-through using props and costumes. It was fantastic to see the production really starting to come together.

Our cast are working incredibly hard and continue to impress us with their enthusiasm, commitment and talent. We can’t wait to see what they achieve tomorrow as we make the final preparations for Friday’s performance! ⭐

🎭 Day Two of our Youth Summer Workshop is complete – and what a day it has been!

Today we ran the whole play for the first time and the cast have been working incredibly hard to develop their characters. We’re so lucky to have such a creative and imaginative group of young people who are bringing their own ideas to the production and helping to make it something really special.

There’s been plenty of hard work, lots of creativity and, of course, plenty of laughs along the way too! 😄

Tomorrow we’ll be focusing on projection, diction and singing as we continue preparing for Friday’s performance.

We can’t wait to see what Day Three brings! ⭐

🎭 Day One of our Youth Summer Workshop is complete – and what a fantastic start!

Today we spent time getting to know each other, exploring our characters, and beginning the journey towards our final performance. There were plenty of enthusiastic (and very entertaining!) drama games, all designed to help build confidence, teamwork and performance skills.

We’re delighted to say that Scene One is already in the bag, and tomorrow we’ll be diving even deeper into character development.

A huge well done to our incredibly talented group of young people – we can’t wait to see what Day Two brings! ⭐

We can’t wait to welcome everyone tomorrow for our Youth Summer Workshop!

A quick reminder for anyone who may have missed the email:

📍 Venue: Gosforth CofE School (not Gosforth Public Hall)
⏰ Times: 10am–4pm each day
🎭 Friday Performance: Finishes around 6pm

Please bring:
🥪 Packed lunch
💧 Water bottle

Please wear:
👕 Comfortable clothes
👟 Comfortable shoes (no slides, please)

☀️ If the weather is nice, we may be outside, so please come prepared with suncream and/or a hat.

🎟️ Friday’s performance is open to friends, family and GADS members only. If you plan to attend, please let us know in advance so your name can be added to the door list. Doors open at 4.30pm (show starts at 5pm)

🎁 We would also be grateful for any raffle prize donations.

Well, the team is all set for this week’s Youth Summer Workshop at Gosforth CofE School.

We’re looking forward to a fun-filled week of theatre games, performance skills, and bringing ‘Three Characters in Search of a Verdict to life’.

A huge thank you to Whitehaven Theatre Group, Whitehaven and District Amateur Operatic Society and Crew Rocks NW Ltd for generously lending us many of the costumes and props we’ll be using throughout the week. With the ongoing refurbishment of Gosforth Public Hall, we’re currently unable to access our own stock, so your support is greatly appreciated.

The workshop will conclude with a performance for parents, friends, and GADS members on Friday at 5pm. If you’re planning to attend, please let us know in advance so we can add your name to the door list.

Please note that this performance is not open to the general public.
