Scunthorpe Cooperative Junior Choir

Scunthorpe Cooperative Junior Choir Multi-award winning Youth Choir based in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. Scunthorpe Cooperative Junior Choir Was founded 100 years ago.

The organisation now boasts around 200 members across 2 training choirs and 1 main choir covering ages 3-19. SCJC has a open access policy, meaning that anyone who wants to, can come and sing with us. The training choirs perform local concerts throughout the year, preparing them for life in the main choir where they will have the opportunity to sing across the country, with foreign tours every other year taking them all over the world. All the conductors at SCJC are firmly of the belief that anyone one who wants to should be allowed the opportunity to sing, and we encourage anyone interested to get in touch and come along for a rehearsal.

As well as saying emotional goodbyes to our leavers at the Annual Leavers' Concert in July this year, the event is an opportunity for all our choirs to show their families and visitors the music they've been learning. Our Main Choir, Training Choir and Little Choir didn't disappoint!
Thank you to our wonderful music team and equally wonderful committee and chaperones, for another successful year at SCJC 🥰.

We are very grateful for this funding, to contribute to our hiring costs. We can’t wait to start our rehearsals again in September! 🎵

🎶 Young singers in Scunthorpe will be able to keep rehearsing, performing and building their confidence together thanks to support for Scunthorpe Cooperative Junior Choir.

The choir has received £3,496 from North Lincolnshire Council’s Community Grant Fund to help cover the cost of hiring rehearsal space.

The funding will support regular sessions and performances for children and young people of all abilities, giving them opportunities to develop their musical skills, make friends and enjoy singing as part of a group.

We have received a wonderful message on our Alumni page, from Samantha Norton, the sister of Sumudu, who was interviewed recently by Jools Holland. She said they would ever grateful to Sue Hollingworth, who enriched their musical lives 🎶.

Have a listen below. Her interview starts at around 33mins and her shout-out to the choir comes a little later at around 55mins…but it’s all worth a listen on a sunny afternoon!

Jools is joined by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sumudu Jayatilaka.
