I have just come across this story about how attending a spoken-word night helped one women step out of her comfort zone and engage with her local community.

If you would like to have a go, or even just attend an open mic night, there are loads of local events on the go. We have July's Speak Out Scunny but there are events in Brigg (Rabbiting On July!), Cleethorpes (Come, Let's Hear You, Speak), Doncaster (Well Spoken at Doncaster Brewery & Tap), and Hull (Away With Words Hull).

July's Speak Out is on 17th at Café INDIE with doors opening at 6:30pm and performances starting at 7:30pm.

If you can't wait that long, our friend Amy Garratt is hosting Rabbiting On July! at The Rabbit Hole Brigg on Tuesday 8th July starting at 7:30pm.

We're super excited to be working with North Lincolnshire Libraries for the upcoming workshops, inspired by the Arc In Movement project on the enfranchisement of women.

The workshops are on 19th July at Epworth Library and 26th July at Brigg Library.

Organised by Speak Out Scunny CIC, for local writers, inspired by the national project The Women's Movement 100: a creative celebration of women’s rights, equality, and our shared heritage.

Themes include suffrage, steel, grit, emancipation, community, identity, strong women, and the contrast of countryside and industry.

Whether you’ve been writing for years or just have something to say, we want to hear from you. All voices welcome.

PLEASE NOTE: both workshops are the same and participants only need to attend one.
