CARIOCA SOUL

Carioca Soul blend the warmth and energy of Brazilian music with jazz and soul, creating an infectious sound rich in sophisticated harmonies, irresistible rhythms and soulful vocals.

Inspired by Sergio Mendes & Brasil โ€™66, the five-piece features some of the UKโ€™s finest jazz musicians, led by pianist and songwriter Wayne Po***ck, whose writing credits include work with Corinne Bailey Rae.

Having supported internationally acclaimed US saxophonist Harry Allen, Carioca Soul have built a reputation for vibrant live performances.

Now entering an exciting new chapter, the band are heading back into the studio with brand-new original music, ahead of new releases, an album launch and live dates in 2027.

Festival favourite Alan brings ๐€๐ฅ๐š๐ง ๐๐š๐ซ๐ง๐ž๐ฌ + ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ to this years festival!

๐ŸŽท Alan Barnes +11 is a project originally put together to celebrate Alanโ€™s 50th birthday in 2009. Alan commissioned his favourite arranger, Mark Nightingale, to write 13 charts for 12 piece big band of tunes written in 1959, the year Alan was born.

Since then the scope of the repertoire has expanded and this Scarborough performance will include several new charts. Alan will be featured throughout on alto and baritone saxes, clarinet and bass clarinet but with plenty of solos from the other musicians as well! ๐ŸŽถ

Sherrie, Amy, and Jackie met in May of 2014 at the Cleveland Playhouse while playing in The DIVA Jazz Orchestra. From their first shared downbeat, they became kindred swinging spirits and the resulting musical synergy was fast and fierce or as the New York Times said - "๐˜ฝ๐™ก๐™ž๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ง๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™ƒ๐™ค๐™ฉ!" ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

๐ŸŽถ Mark Roadnight and Mark Armstrong, whilst playing a show together, had a crazy idea. They decided to put together a show featuring Dark Side of the Moon and other Pink Floyd classics with an electric band plus a full big band.

๐Ÿ“ฏ Mark Armstrong has written completely new horn arrangements for the songs, and the band will feature top session and recording artists and some of the most well-known horn players on the London jazz and big band scene.

๐ŸŽท Critically acclaimed saxophonist, flautist and composer, Xhosa Cole is an embodiment of the success of numerous community outreach arts programmes in Birmingham.

Having developed his unique mixed-heritage, black British q***r voice in the Jazz tradition, Xhosaโ€™s musical roots are in collaboration and improvisation. This alchemic mix has opened the doors to work alongside a diverse and expansive pool of creative forces from different traditions, cultures, backgrounds and practices.
