Look out for a special community led series of lanterns illuminating Scarborough’s 400 years of history as England’s first seaside spa town, being premiered at Moonlight on the Lake this year, thanks to support from Arts Council England through the National Lottery.

There will be new illuminations on display this year, alongside a number of family favourites for visitors of all ages to enjoy.

Moonlight on the Lake is brought to you by Animated Objects and North Yorkshire Council working in partnership to transform Peasholm Park into a wonderland of hand made lanterns and illuminations.

Scan the QR code or visit www.moonlightonthelake.co.uk for details of tickets and time slots for entry to the event, hosted on the Scarborough Fair website.

Tickets are £3. Children 15 and under are free, but do require a booking and must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are selling fast, and some time slots are already sold out.

Please be aware of other websites falsely offering tickets or exclusive access, as these are not affiliated with the event, and will not gain you entry on the evening.

If you enjoyed visiting Seafest & Scarborough 400 at the weekend, you may have seen a sneak peak of one of the many hand made lanterns we’ve been working on for Moonlight on the Lake at in October.

This piece, standing at over 3m tall, celebrates the discovery of spa waters by Mrs. Thomasin Farrer, and will feature in a special community led series of lanterns illuminating Scarborough’s 400 years of history as England’s first seaside spa town, thanks to support from Arts Council England through the National Lottery.

There will be new illuminations on display this year, alongside a number of family favourites for visitors of all ages to enjoy.

Lovely to be able to display a series of lamp post illuminations we’d created working with young people from the town as part of the celebrations Scarborough Spa this weekend.

It’s been a fantastic weekend of creative activities and it’s always a pleasure to showcase the work of young people at public events

The lamp post lights were part of a project we ran in 2024 originally part funded by GOV.UK Shared Prosperity Fund & Scarborough Fair that we’ve further developed and will be hoping to extend in the coming years

What a fantastic weekend in the Suncourt at Seafest celebrating Scarborough 400.
Huge thanks to everyone who performed on the community stage in the Suncourt .
A fabulous atmosphere , with so many visitors enjoying all the amazing local talent; Staxton Singers, Monty Riley, Alan Cooper, Charlie Flintoft, Hackness Ladies Choir ,Yorkshire Koast Jive, No Reverse, Twilight Productions, Archie McNally, Manhattan Voices and Steeton Male Voice Choir.

What an incredible weekend celebrating local heritage through creativity with Scarborough 400 at Seafest!

Giant lanterns representing historic figures; a life sized reconstruction of a Victorian building; street illuminations designed by young people; tiles hand painted by hundreds of local volunteers; live music and dancing; heritage talks; architecture and free play creation; community crafts; architectural construction; green screen photography and much more!

We’ve had the pleasure of spending quality time creating artworks with hundreds of people of all ages in the lead up to the festival; and welcoming thousands through the ocean room doors to take part in creative activities and meet local community organisations. It’s been an absolute joy celebrating the 400th anniversary of being England’s first seaside spa town!

Here’s a sneak peak at our scale model of Scarborough Spa for display at Seafest & Scarborough 400 this weekend Scarborough Spa . It’s been an epic month of building!

The final piece will is almost 7 feet in length and depicts the design proposals for the magnificent Spa building of Verity and Hunt from 1879.

It’s been an incredible challenge to design and construct, involving over 18,000 individual LEGO bricks and we can’t wait for you to see it!

You can see the LEGO Spa building designed by Lee Threadgold animatedobjects in all its glory on display as part of Seafest and the Scarborough 400 celebrations in the Ocean Room Scarborough Spa from 10.00-5.00 on Saturday and Sunday.

And there’ll be plenty of opportunities for LEGO builders of all ages to have a go creating technicolour visions of Scarborough and the future for display in our workshop area alongside the model, as well as a host of other free family activities and entertainment to enjoy. See you there!
