The theatre at the Asclepius Sanctuary of Epidavros
❤️🌿❤️🌿❤️🌿❤️🌿❤️🌿
Last time visited was May/June 1988, on tour with the National Theatre playing Miranda in The Tempest as part of the Late Shakespeare plays (with Winter’s Tale and Cymbeline) dir. Peter Hall.
The theatre was designed by Polykleitos the Younger around 340 BC.
Unchanged, protected, loved and used annually. Part of a huge healing complex which accommodates 160 patients and their friends/families at a time. The theatre seats 13,000-14,000.
Unforgettable.
