It feels like a momentous day as we finally surrender our alcohol license. When we started, craft beer was intended to be the sustainable heart of our regeneration project. We mashed, fermented, and lagered, producing beers so well-received that Goddards partnered with us to develop award-winning recipes.

But the beer was never the whole story. We were here to curate, to commission, and to nurture; we were here to champion Sandown as a place of extraordinary beauty and possibility. We have some exciting news to share soon, but for now, please join us in raising a glass to the Island’s first modern craft beer taproom.

Thank you for all the memories.

Original and wonderful work by the VIVA Carnival Club based on CHUFFLE a tiger's tale set in Sandown about how the beach got her stripes and how a town welcomed an outsider! Love it. Well done to all involved. Tuppence and donuts all the way!

Our new group, “the Creative Crew” began today.

As a team, we are making a set of costumes for The New Carnival Company’s Mardi Gras on 4 July in Ryde

Our beautiful Isle of Wight folk tale is called ‘the Chuffle’ written by Tracy Mikish of Boojum&Snark.

It’s a story of being different- having to fit in where you might not have originally chosen to be, earning the trust and respect of your community, and making the ultimate sacrifice for your friends

Tamilla the tiger finds herself a refugee, washed up on Sandown beach. During her time in Sandown she visits the pier where she plays the 2p machines, eats donuts and feeds the seagulls!

We have enjoyed designing our costumes to represent all of this- see if you can find references to the beach/ pier in our designs.

GRAFT STUDIOS / SANDOWN'S NEW CULTURAL QUARTER
Open today 10.30am-4.30pm and tomorrow 25 May

A wonderful new chapter for Sandown has officially begun! The new GRAFT studios opened their doors this weekend, celebrating the incredible graft and determination of founder Emma Souter. It's the culmination of significant hard work and dedication from Emma, supported by a fantastic network of partners, including Laura Cansdale, Regeneration Officer at the Isle of Wight Council, who officially cut the ribbon to declare GRAFT open for creativity and community.

GRAFT is going to be a brilliant space for workshops, exhibitions, and community connection. Want to get involved? Send an email to [email protected] or, better yet, drop in and say hello.

GRAFT is located at the former Sandown Town Hall in Grafton Street (Graft, see what they did there, very clever). Be sure to drop in to Glory Art Glass, Melville Street, on your way up.

DINOSAUR TIME...

Running across the week from Monday 25th May to Friday 29th May, the museum’s “What’s On” schedule promises fossil walks, hands-on sessions and a series of family-friendly talks exploring the Island’s ancient past.

Visitors can expect daily ‘Dinosaur Safari’ talks led by curator and general manager, Dr David Button. This provides the chance for visitors to meet some of the Isle of Wight’s unique dinosaurs by examining real fossils, and what they teach us about the ancient lives of dinosaurs.
