fans Did you know 1st September sees the start of World Fun Fair Month ?
Started by Future 4 Fairgrounds in 2021, World Fun Fair month aims to raise the profile of the nations travelling fairgrounds by highlighting the local history of fairs in their town and to promote a wider understanding of the Showman community behind our fairs. One of these fairs is our very own
Winsford Salt Fair, that began back in 2012. Was created to celebrate the Royal Charter granted by King Edward I in 1280 to allow Winsford to host an annual four day Fair as written within it's text. This year's annual fair, following these dates, is expected to take place from Thursday 17th - Sunday 20th September.
In addition to this 4 day travelling Fun Fair : For a second year there will be a Fairground in miniature with a Model Show taking place on the Saturday in St Andrews Church, off Winsford's Di**le Lane. The Winsford Town Council will have events taking place in Winsford Town Park on the Saturday.
Over 250 fairs are taking place across the UK & Ireland on any given week in the height of the season, and for many Showmen September is their busiest month as the backend run starts.
World Fun Fair Month will feature fairs large and small all over the country from small village fairs with a handful of attractions, famous street fairs in our towns and city centres and ending the month with the biggest fair of them all, Nottingham Goose Fair, which starts this year on Friday 25th September! However the month kicks off a week today with a two day charter fair in Oxford. The famous St Giles fair on its streets... These three fairs alone all have a charter.
