What a very sad day, hearing that such a dear friend, Colin Breed, has passed away.

It is difficult to remember how and when I first met Colin, it was many many years ago but he soon became a great friend and supporter.

He and Janet were always great supporters of Youngstagers and I am not sure there were many, if any shows that they missed

As soon as he became MP, I was thrilled and flattered when he asked me to be his Constituency typist. What a truly amazing and fascinating job that was. I absolutely loved it and it soon became even more obvious what a massively hard working and dedicated man he was, dedicated not only to his own home town but to the people of South East Cornwall and beyond.

He was the perfect person to invite to officially open 'Loopy looks' (now Encore) and he brought fun and laughter to the day, even though he had just flown in from a trip abroad, visited (possibly opened) the Regatta and then driven down to Dobwalls for a meeting about the bypass before coming to us

Whenever you saw Colin, he was always the same, always interested and always with a hug!

Rest in peace dear Colin and thank you, you will be sadly missed xx

What a great time we had yesterday meeting and talking to people who were keen to find out more about SMILE

Lovely to see some old 'SODS' and reminisce over previous shows and amazing to welcome several new people

We have already have around 15 to 20 names on our list and looking forward to arranging our first meeting/rehearsal as soon as possible

Wow! What a busy time since we posted our plans for SMILE this week :)

Did you know?

In 1928 Saltash Operatic & Dramatic Society (S.O.D.S.) formed in Saltash

Over the next 62 years, they performed 75 productions, including G&S, musical theatre and plays until they folded in 1990 when the Wesley Church was rebuilt
Since that time, there hasn't been an adult musical theatre group in the town

In 1990/1991, Youngstagers Youth Theatre Group formed, starting with just 29 members and a £5 donation

30 years and almost 40 Award winning productions followed, including a performance in Euro Disney

In 2000, Youngstagers invited young people from the town to join them in a one off Millennium Show - 'Time Walk 2000' under the 'banner name' of:
S.M.Y.L.E. - Saltash Musical Youth Live Entertainment

Several shows later, Youngstagers Committee decided to rethink the group and bring musical theatre back to the town for adults as well as young people

In 2020, Covid hit!

We are now back with our plans for:
S.M.I.L.E. - Saltash Musical Inclusive Live Entertainers
