Did you know that Handel, as well as being a virtuoso organist and composer, was also rather (too) fond of his food?!
This contemporary caricature captures both facets of the man who invented the organ concerto. Come and hear a delightful example of the genre at Salisbury Baroque's Baroque Extravaganza! Sunday 28th June at 6pm in Wilton Parish Church ( Italianate).

So why have we called our next concert ‘Baroque Extravaganza’? One of the reasons is that the orchestra will include oboes, horns, trumpets and organ, alongside the usual strings, bassoon and harpsichord. Having instruments based on those that Handel would have known should be a wonderful sound in Wilton Parish Church - really extravagant - and we have some wonderful young players coming to join us including Eliza Talman who played so beautifully with us last summer. Hope to see you there. Tickets available through the Salisbury Baroque website - £15 in advance and £17 on the door.

Fascinating to hear more about the documents that have inspired this weekend.

A lot of work has gone into preparing for our concert on Sunday at Salisbury Cathedral, playing pieces from the Corfe collection. The programme includes works by some less well known composers connected with Salisbury. Do listen to Nigel explaining further and hope to see you at the concert (6.30pm on Sunday). There’s a fascinating talk by John Dover on Saturday afternoon at 2pm too and the services over the weekend will feature music from the Georgian period. Further details are on the cathedral website.

Alongside Vivaldi, Dall’Abaco and Albinoni, next week’s programme will feature concerti grossi by Corelli and Geminiani. Corelli was a highly revered violinist and composer. Geminiani, also a violinist, was born 34 years later and studied with Corelli. It will be interesting to compare the two.
