MEDLOCK MILL 2.41am

First Light was at 2.41am.

I photographed around the area where Medlock Mill remains, perhaps the most famous ruin in Manchester. Perhaps built in 1794, it became known as Hotspur Press due to the sign that was i it for decades.

Sadly the mill was engulfed in flames last year, and now only the carcass remains. Soon it will be demolished, and there will be no trace of this beloved building.

Collyhurst, Manchester. Improbable Hill & Dalton St.

This short video was made recently at dawn. I returned to Improbable Hill, where the view into the city is fascinating.

Dawn seemed to take a while to get going, as if I was out of sync with time by half an hour. Even the birds were slow to wake.

The Irk Valley is crucible land, reflecting Manchester’s fortunes through the centuries.

Postponed from April, join me for what will be a lively and fascinating discussion about being a creative in Manchester.

I’ve had several cuppas already with Liam, and we’ve chatted about photography, the perils of being freelance, what drives us, AI and our very different experiences from when I started out to contemporary times.

Liam also has some interesting ideas on supporting creatives in the city.

An hour will fly by. Listen and learn!
