Very exciting news!!!!!!

Guess who's going to Stretford Town Centre! I'm going to be running one of the exhibits as part of Stretford Unofficial Museum's Round 2 of exhibitions!

The exhibition will be celebrating poetry all about Stretford, and will be written by those who know it best - whether that be residents, frequent visitors, or absolutely ANYBODY with a connection to Stretford! This will be from the 31st July to the 2nd August.

Now, time for the important bit. I need YOU! After all, I can't run a community poetry exhibit without community poems! I'd love to see what Stretford themed poems you come up with. They can be about anything to do with Stretford: the current developments, your childhood memories, or anything else Stretford themed! You can submit them via the link below!

**The World of The Friends**

A delayed anniversary post, after yesterday's exciting announcement! This week, we are celebrating the wonderful world of fiction that The Friends holds.

The Characters:
So many different characters, all with different stories! They all develop across the book, for better and for worse. Who is your favourite character?

The Setting:
There are A LOT of key settings in the book. Some are relaxing, some are not... If you had to visit one of the main settings, which would you visit? A shopping trip in the town centre followed by a coffee at Rose's sounds quite nice to me!

Survivor

Like a war veteran, it stands
On the street it has stood on for years
Proudly looking over its land,
It remembers public's past fears

They planted their bomb next to it.
As police evacuated the public,
Postbox prepared for its fatal hit.
Yet, it escaped safely without a flick.

Standing strong in surrounding rubble,
It had survived their attempted trouble.
It looked around at the destroyed shops
As all of the shoppers' shopping stopped.

Now busy shoppers speed on by;
Forgetting that time no one died,
Forgetting Manchester’s worried cry,
Forgetting the Postbox that survived.

On this day in 1996, Manchester went through one of its many impactful moments. My favourite thing about this, though, is the postbox remaining standing throughout the blast - a true signifier of this city's ability to stay standing no matter what is thrown at it ❤️

The Bi Erasure Poem

You don't need to hide
Just need to pick a side.
No, I'm not homophobic;
I just wish you'd pick.

So, go on - girls or guys?
No, no. You can't be bi,
Because thats all just lies,
Its always either girls or guys.

Dating a guy? You're gay.
Well, what did I say‽
Dating a girl? You're straight.
I don't make the rules, mate!

You're one or the other,
As you'll soon discover.
So, which will you try?
Gay or straight: never bi.

Happy pride month everyone! I found this badge in People's History Museum and it made me write this poem! Bi erasure is definitely a big issue nowadays.

**The Friends: Not Just A Book**

That week has gone very fast! I loved seeing where your copies have all been. It's now time for the second week of anniversary celebrations for The Friends!

This week is celebrating The Friends being more than just a book. The cover photo has appeared on A LOT of things, from a vase from Bean & Brush Family Art Café to a bookmark from Gift & Receive! It has also appeared on a lot of merch that I sell at events, including bags and keyrings.

Out of this depot since 1901,
All making their mark whilst
Driving on Manchester's streets

Today Museum of Transport, Greater Manchester celebrated 125 years of Queens Road depot! Currently a Stagecoach depot as part of the Bee Network, it's seen many operators in its time! I'd highly recommend going to see the fun tomorrow if you haven't already!
