Coming next: HAVISHAM, written and performed by Heather Alexander, direction and dramaturg by Dominique Gerrard. A journey into the psyche of Miss Havisham from Charles Dickens' Great Expectations.

At The Swallow Theatre near Whithorn this Sunday 1 September at 7.30pm (at the time of writing just five tickets left), and Monday 2 September 2.30pm (good availability).

“Everybody for miles round had heard of Miss Havisham … as an immensely rich and grim lady who lived in a large and dismal house barricaded against robbers, and who led a life of seclusion.” This is how Charles Dickens first introduces the character of Miss Havisham in his 1860-61 serialised novel, Great Expectations.

But what was Miss Havisham’s life before she stopped the clocks at the precise moment her bridegroom fled, and remained in her wedding dress for the rest of her days?

Heather Alexander vividly imagines the trauma that led Miss Havisham to such an extreme reaction to betrayal.

HAVISHAM comes to The Swallow Theatre on 1 & 2 September.
