Ghostnet: Open Studio with Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Residency Artist Sadia Pineda Hameed.

Sadia Pineda Hameed's work explores latent ways to speak about collective and intergenerational trauma through anticolonial strategies of dreaming, telepathy and secrets. Using 16mm film and hi8 video, sculptural installation, text and performance, her work imagines what future tools for resistance, value and communion springing from these strategies might look like - often through the ‘handheld’.

During her three month residency with Porthmeor Studios, Sadia has been interested in the working and living conditions of Filipino fishermen at Newlyn Harbour; experimenting with net-making, repair and anting-anting in the studio to consider what kinds of knowledge, solidarities and journeys - like lost or abandoned 'ghost nets' at sea - are still possible to recover.

Exhibition: On The Surface It Appears with Philip Medley and Mike Grifiths.

Both artists share a deep respect for great works of art, historical and contemporary, which directly informs their studio practice. This admiration serves as a visceral signpost, which aids the creative process and helps during the significant periods of time necessary for the search and discovery of new visual avenues and platforms. It allows singular elements and actions to combine in open ended enquiry.

The mechanics of making paintings through the manipulation of coloured pigment on a flat plane are abstract. This process to harmonise and create feelings via illusionistic and physical space is paradoxical but helps harness evocative moments for both artist and audience.

Borlase Smart Room, Porthmeor Studios until 30 August. Please note exhibition will close at 5pm on Wednesday 26 August.

Studios short term tenant SHARP is currently exhibiting as part of THE DRAFTS in

Tessa Boffin: Where We Touch the Archive, an ambitious national touring exhibition responding to the work of artist and activist Tessa Boffin (1960–1993). The exhibition launched at Devonshire Collective on 18 July 2026 before travelling to Nottingham, Brighton and Portsmouth throughout 2026–27.

This project is grounded in a collective, intersectional approach to curatorial research, led by four emerging curators whose practices are rooted in q***r and feminist frameworks: Polly Wright (Devonshire Collective, Eastbourne), Jazz Swali (Backlit Gallery , Nottingham), Ricardo Reverón Blanco (Aspex Portsmouth , Portsmouth), and Danit Ariel (Photoworks).

This project has received support from Arts Council England Touring Projects grant strand and the Paul Mellon Centre, enabling an extensive programme of artist commissions, curatorial development and public engagement across all four venues.
