In anticipation of the International Festival of Glass 2026, coming to The World of Glass this summer, we are delighted to present Glass Muse, a new exhibition at the Godfrey Pilkington Gallery.

Glass Muse offers exhibition opportunities for local, national, and international artists, inviting submissions of newly created work to be selected for exhibition ahead of the festival.

Artists are asked to respond to a specially selected group of rarely seen objects from the Pilkington Glass Collection, at The World of Glass. These objects each carry unique histories and narratives, offering rich potential to inspire contemporary responses and wider dialogue.

The original collection objects will be displayed within The World of Glass, where artists are warmly invited to visit and engage with them in person. Alternatively, photographs of the objects will be available online at
www.worldofglass.com

For the 25/26 round of AiL Creative Commissions, St Helens Library Service invites applications to fund three (3) artists/creatives to create original, site-specific works. One each for:

Moss Bank Library
Thatto Heath Library
Eccleston Library

Each of the three commissions is worth £3,000, inclusive of material budget.

We're looking for artists/creatives working in any visual, textual, sculptural (or other) form, to create, install & manage a high-quality artwork that would remain a semi-permanent fixture in these four libraries for a minimum 12 month period.

We're interested in hearing from artists who are open to their projects being shaped by engagement with library staff, building heritage and service users.

Applicants should note that major structural amendments to library interior walls cannot be made (including drilled fixtures into plaster or brickwork), and should consider how their work might otherwise be presented in their applications. We strongly recommend visiting the Libraries listed before applying. Applicants should also consider their plan for decommissioning the work after the 12 month exhibition period.

We welcome applications from anyone living in or connected to St Helens Borough.

We also encourage applications from global majority, LGBTQIA+, disabled and/or working-class people who are underrepresented in the Arts.

If you have been successful in the past with a funding application to St Helens - Arts in Libraries Creative Commissions, you may still apply, but your application should demonstrate a clear development or new direction in your work.

If successful, you will receive production and promotional support from the Arts in Libraries Team throughout the process.

The deadline for applications is Friday 20th February at 12.00 midday. Applications received after this time will not be considered.
