Trestle Theatre Company

Trestle Theatre Company Trestle is a mask and physical theatre company based in St Albans, at Trestle Arts Base.

Trestle is a mask and physical theatre company, with a highly regarded arts education programme. As a charity, our mission is to engage children, young people and adults in creative activity, which aims to enhance the cultural quality of their experiences. Trestle has been making innovative and inspirational physical theatre and participation projects since 1981. All of our work is influenced by f

ull and half mask; however, over the past decade, collaborations with artists from India, Spain, Eastern Europe and Africa, along with our partners in the UK, have inspired the evolution of the work we create. Trestle is one of the leading providers of school workshops, teacher training and participation programmes in the country. We run mask, half mask, physical theatre and bespoke workshops, projects and residencies nationally and internationally. Trestle Arts Base in St Albans is home to Trestle Theatre Company, from here we support the development and performance of new, high quality, professional productions. There are weekly classes, community events and meetings, as well as spaces for performance research and development.

Water is rarely static, and neither are we.

We're delighted to welcome artist Toni Gates to Trestle Arts Base this September for Fluid Emotions, a collection of textured acrylic waterscapes exploring the quiet parallel between water and human emotion.

From deep muted blues that speak to solitude, to vibrant refractions of light that capture hope, each piece invites you to pause and project your own story onto the canvas.

πŸ“š GCSE Results Day

To every student picking up their results today, however you are feeling right now, well done for all the hard work you have put in this year.

Remember, an exam result is a snapshot, not a forecast. There is so much more ahead of you than a piece of paper can show.

Wishing you all the very best for whatever comes next.

🎭 Happy International Youth Day!

This year's theme, "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations," feels made for Trestle.

Every week, Trestle School of Drama brings together young people from across St Albans and beyond, each with their own story, yet a shared ambition to create, perform and be seen.

From our youngest BEGIN performers, through EVOLVE and EMERGE, to our oldest class, ADVANCE, we watch confidence grow and friendships form. Our Youth Leadership Board gives young people a genuine say in shaping Trestle's future too!

Today we celebrate every one of them. Thank you for bringing your whole selves to Trestle Arts Base.
