Rye Dance Centre

Rye Dance Centre Established in 1982, it is an ISTD Approved Dance Centre.

The school, which was established in 1982 and is an ISTD Approved Dance Centre, is located in the beautiful historic town of Rye, East Sussex and is centrally located, 5 minutes' walk from the train and bus station. The School offers professional training in dance and theatre studies under guidance of ISTD Modern, Tap and Ballet examiner Joanne Fletcher. Pupils are accepted from 16 months both gir

ls and boys, and are trained in the ISTD syllabi to major level and optional teacher training. Classes are held at Postern Gate, Cinque Ports Street (previously doctor's surgery) and the adjacent Rye Community Centre, Conduit Hill (upper hall). Both studios are mirrored and have professional flooring by Harlequin and Rosco with Postern Gate also having sprung floors.

Please come and support us on Sunday 7th June, 3:30 pm at Rye Community Centre (lower hall) for a performance of our 2026 festival dances.
Tickets available at the door only. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis.

Rye Dance Centre - Classes for younger members

Wednesdays commencing 15/4
9:30 to 10:15 am commencing 15 April - Tiddler's dance and Movement class
Early start class experiencing learning in sensory, audible and visual ways whilst preparing children to proceed to pre primary dance classes.
Lots of fun with use of props, movement and incorporating song and dance. Suitable for children ages from 12 months to 3 ½ years. Accompanied by one adult.

Fridays commencing 17/4
4:30 to 5:30 pm - Toddlers pre primary ballet and primary modern.
Option of remaining from 5.30 to 6.00 pm for pre primary tap.
A lovely dance class with early learning techniques and performance in ballet, modern and tap and suitable for children ages 2/3 and up to 4/5 years.

Saturdays commencing 18/4
9:30 to 10:10 am Toddlers Ballet class - for ages 12 months to 4 years.
Accompanied by one adult per child only and if required. Learning with use of props and imagination. Lots of fun.

ISTD Exams

Well done to Rye Dance Centre pupils who recently took ISTD ballet and tap exams.

100% pass rate was achieved with 90% awarded as the top mark.

ISTD exams are great for teaching technique, artistry and performance and pupils following these establish a good dance structure and confidence to proceed to the next level as well as a sense of personal achievement. RDC encourages pupils to take exams but it's not a necessity.

Well done to pupils and teachers.
