☀️ Bringing the Sunshine Back to Sandown Underpass! ☀️
We were absolutely devastated recently to see that our bright, sunny mural in the Sandown underpass had been vandalised. We poured so much love into brightening up this space for our community, and we know how much it hurt everyone to see it defaced.
But we have some wonderful news—we’ve been back down there, rolled up our sleeves, and the mural is officially back and fully restored! 🎨✨
To help protect the artwork for the future, we have now applied a specialist anti-graffiti protective varnish.
We also want to share a really important update with you all on how to care for the mural moving forward. We know our community has the biggest heart, and someone actually tried to help us by cleaning off the vandalism before we arrived. Unfortunately, using standard cleaning chemicals or scrubbing a specialized coating like this can accidentally eat right through the layers of paint, causing even more damage down the wall.
To help us keep the mural looking beautiful for years to come, please follow these guidelines if you ever spot any issues:
Report it directly: If you see any defacement, please report it immediately to Island Roads, who own the tunnel.
Leave the cleaning to the experts: Island Roads have all the instructions and know the specific products required to safely remove surface marks without damaging the artwork underneath.
Let the coating do its job: The anti-graffiti layer is designed to work with a specific removal process, so please don't attempt any DIY fixes, as helpful as we know you are trying to be!
This underpass belongs to our amazing local community, and we hope it brings smiles to everyone passing through for many years to come. Thank you all so much for your incredible, ongoing support and for helping us look after this space! 💛🎨
