St Peter's Church Ruthin Evensong Choir

St Peter's Church Ruthin Evensong Choir We are a small choir that sings evensong in St Peter’s church (Ruthin) on the first Sunday of the month at 6pm. Please get in touch if you would like to join us

We welcome new members. Current members range from classically trained singers, some experienced church choristers, some who have sung at St Peter's for many years and some who are just enthusiastic people who loved singing in their youth and want to rediscover that joy
Services are usually about 30 minutes long and follow the Anglican evensong. Do get in touch if you would like to join us. As you

can see from our music list, we attempt music from a varied range of styles and from many musical periods: from Tudor church music to the present day. We are a small choir but enjoy the beauty of the music in wonderful surroundings

Our next evensong is on Advent Sunday, 1st December at 6pm.
It may be the last we can sing in St Peter's Church before the commencement of the church re-modelling. But we hope to use other venues for next year's services until the work is completed.

Subject to the church's availability we hope to present a carol service later in December. More details will follow.

There will be no first Sunday evensong in November, but we will join together again for the first Sunday in Advent.

This Saturday, 2nd November at 6pm, we will be singing at the Mass for All Souls which will take place in St Meugan's Church Llanrhydd, Ruthin.

The next day, Sunday 3rd Nov, Tad Huw leaves us for pastures new with his final service being at 1030 at St Peter's Church in Llanbedr. Our contribution to this service will be John Rutter's "The Lord bless you and keep you", a fitting farewell from a grateful church choir.

The start date for the re-modelling of St Peter's Ruthin is unknown and so we are not yet sure whether a traditional carol service will be taking place there this year.

The next evensong will be at 6pm on Sunday 4th August. As it is the holiday season, many choir members are away. So it will not be possible to have an appropriate choral celebration of the Transfiguration. This month's evensong, we will be singing amongst the congregation in a parish evensong. In this simpler version of evensong there will be no anthem.

Our next Choral Evensong at 6pm on Sunday, July 7th when we will be celebrating St Thomas the Apostle – “Doubting Thomas” as he is known colloquially. We will be singing music spanning many centuries and styles: from two austerely beautiful plainsong hymns to a delightful chorus from Handel’s Brokes Passion of 1716. We will end with the rousing hymn “O praise ye the Lord” by the Edwardian composer Hubert H. Parry – the composer of the hymn “Jerusalem” as always sung on the last night of the Proms.

We will next be singing Evensong at 6pm on Sunday, 2nd. June. Everyone is, of course, most welcome. The anthem on this occasion will be Attwood's "Turn Thy face from my sins" which will be familiar to many. This may well be the last Evensong we sing in St. Peter's for some time as the church is about to undergo a substantial re-modelling. We will continue to sing a monthly evensong at one of the churches in our mission area and look forward to the challenges that will bring.
