Tot’s Art

Tot’s Art Tot’s Art is an Arts and craft session for tots between 18months-5 years. Held on Wednesday morning at Rugeley Community Church and Centre.

Working alongside Cannock Chase Children’s Centre. Tot’s Art is run by me Helen I’ve been an Art & Design teacher for the past 12 years working in senior schools across Staffordshire. I’m currently on maternity leave and whilst researching and attending baby classes I have noticed a lack of Art classes in the community for babies & toddlers. Having experienced first hand the benefits Art can provi

de for my students at school I feel it is important for early years to also have the opportunity to explore and play with the materials I use within my lessons. Art allows children to explore and investigate materials allowing imagination and curiosity to develop. Not only this but it is particularly good for young children to help develop fine motor skills in early years. Having tried doing Arts and Crafts with my young nephews at home, I soon realised what is a simple task in my classroom, is incredibly messy and hard work at home. So the idea of Tot’s Art is to create a portable classroom with a wide range of materials and tasks set up within the space. Encouraging babies and toddlers to explore and play at their own pace. Allowing them to begin to develop basic manipulation and creative skills without any of the mess at home. So get out your old clothes and let’s get creative!
