Larussi is finished!

Well, the first draft is anyway. It tips the scales at a surprising 506 double-spaced pages, which will make it a` full size novel when everything is done and dusted.

Now it must go through my painstaking editing process, and then to Cuzzie for final approval before publication.

Expect to see it on sale about a month from now.

'Larussis's Heartsong' is taking longer than I anticipated. It now tips the scales at 82,500 words (about 275 pages in book terms) and I haven't reached the climax yet. I am getting there, though. My original target of a September release has now gone by the board, sadly, but I am a believer in getting it right, even if it takes longer, rather than putting a work that has not been properly finished on sale and polishing it up afterwards. I estimate that there is still a month of writing ahead of me, followed by a further month of editing and proof-reading before it will be ready. My estimated release date is, therefore, now in time for Christmas.

My 'Avalind' books ('Usurper', 'A Sovereign's Honour', 'A New Queen Rises', 'The Ancient Realm', 'The Shattered Realms', 'The Power of Four Queens' and - soon - 'Larussi's Heartsong') are my biggest sellers and I know that there are readers waiting patiently for the latest instalment. My sincere apologies to all those people. Thank you for your support. I scan assure you that the wait will have been worth it by the time the book goes on sale.

have just dipped my toe in the waters of a new publishing outlet by issuing 'The Planning Officers' through Draft2Digital.As I write, it is going through the publishing process, but should be available on iBooks, Nook, Kobo, Page Foundry and Scribd by the time you read this. It has already passed its ePub validation, so there should be no problems.

My new book, 'Larussi's Heartsong' passed the 50,000 word mark this week, which means we are getting somewhere near halfway. I don't want to give too much away, obviously, but the book, which is the Appendix to the 'A Queen's Heart' trilogy, is set five years after those events. It sees Larussi, now eighteen years of age, returning to Morgonnun, the land of her birth - now returned to its original status as a province of Krimmin. Many of the old characters return, for she is not the only one to make the journey.

Although the book is very much in keeping with the world created in the 'Avalind' Books, this is not a war story, and there is no magic whatsoever. You can only have so many invasions, battles and sorcerers before it starts to become a bit repetitive. Don't worry, fantasy fans. There will still be plenty of action to keep you occupied. There are lots of other ways to describe exciting events, and this is what is explored here. Unlike the six previous 'Avalind' books, 'Larussi's Heartsong' is a stand-alone story rather than part of a trilogy. It was originally intended to be quite short - more of a novella than a novel. The way things are going, however, it could yet turn out to be my longest work to date. These things tend to develop a life of their own once I start working on them. With what is already written, and what remains in my head to be written, we are now looking at a full length novel.

Schools have broken up for the summer, so I now have leisure to write, at least in theory. Life has a a way of obstructing progress even when you are not at work, but all is progressing well and I should to be able to publish in the autumn - October in all probability.

Now busy revising Chapter Three of 'Larussi'. Only minimal revisions necessary so far.

Just finished exam marking for the summer. Now I can get back on with 'Larussi's Heartsong' at last. Having to go back to the beginning to reread what I have already done and bring myself up to speed.

Aaagh! I uploaded a draft of the first three chapters of my current book to Kindle recently. This was an experiment because I had just switched to a new word processor and I needed to work a few technical issues out. It was to remain as an unpublished draft until the book was finished. Imagine my horror at discovering it on sale at Amazon.co.uk - the first three chapters of an unfinished book! Worse than that, somebody has bought a copy. I offer a sincere apology to that person because the work was published in error. If you would like to contact me through this page, I will attempt to make amends. The title of the unfinished work is 'Rutter's Redemption'. When the completed book is published, it will have a different title.
